This box features 75 Elvis songs from 1954 to 1960. These songs already existed before Elvis adopted them as his own. We collected 177 original versions of songs, which Elvis interpreted and compared them to the versions from Elvis. Both, popular songs and rarities are featured in this box. You are going to be surprised. Most of the Elvis fans do not even know that Elvis covered so many songs, he owned a huge record collection with records from various genres. Some people even think that "Blue Suede Shoes" is an Elvis song. You can also find the chart position of the American single charts from both, the original song and Elvis´ interpretation. To be on the safe side, we marked some songs with "probably" or "possibly", when the similarity is not too obvious. In some cases, it is more or less obvious that Elvis used a certain song as a draft, but we never talked to Elvis to confirm this.

2008 collection containing 26 rockin' instrumentals from the studio that created the Chantey's' 'Pipeline' and the Rumblers' 'Boss'. This compilation ties together all the surf and rocking instrumentals recorded at the Downey Studios or for Downey Records in the early '60s. Most were released on small indie boutique labels, if not on the Downey imprint itself. There are some previously unreleased items, and a few that were initially unearthed for a now-deleted, badly mastered and totally un-annotated Dunhill CD in the '80s. With this release we have tried to include as much information as possible in Brian Nevill's exhaustive sleeve notes together with some great photos for the booklet. This is a must for surf and instrumental fans who like to have one studio, one label, one legend in one place. For everyone else, we've got alternate takes and unavailable masters, so there's no excuse for this not to be on your shelf. 26 tracks. Ace. 2008.

The Bosstown (Boston) sound was pushed as a next big thing in the late '60s, but failed to take off, mostly because, as Gertrude Stein might say, there was no "there" there. This double CD features tracks by most of the area's biggest groups – Ultimate Spinach, Orpheus, Earth Opera, Rockin' Ramrods, Bagatelle, Eden's Children – as well as even smaller footnoes, like Ill Wind and Chamaeleon (sic) Church. Mostly it's rather dreary, second-rate psychedelia, heavy on the sub-Cream blues-rock jamming, sub-Airplane mystical riffing, and pretentious wordplay. The poppier acts, in contrast, sound like psychedelicized variants of the Association, a rather ill-advised recipe. Points of interest: Earth Opera's lineup included Peter Rowan and David Grisman (their epic "The American Eagle Tragedy" is featured); the Rockin' Ramrods had a dynamite local pop-rock smash with "Bright Lit Blue Skies" (which has been compiled elsewhere); and the Lost, featuring Willie Alexander and Walter Powers (who would show up in the post-Lou Reed Velvet Underground), offer a couple raw 1965 folk-rockers that aren't bad.

Christmas has provided a rich seam of subject matter for songwriters to mine over the years, building on a significant repertoire of carols and other religious songs in the traditional arena, and an ever-growing catalogue of secular songs for people to enjoy during a season when music has always been an essential element of the festivities. In the era of the commercial record sales charts, the competition for that elusive Christmas No. 1 hit has often been intense, and some notable seasonal hits have been major sellers over the years.

Many of the more rocking titles herein became popular in Europe during the 1970s Rockabilly Revival.

Our mission at Complete 60s Records to collect every U.S. pop instrumental hit of the 1960s produced three spectacular box sets, but when we found it impossible to go forward past 1962, collectors demanded we turn back the clock to 1959, another great year for instrumentals. So now, on two jam-packed CDs, we have collected every charting U.S. pop hit from 1959 in sparkling fidelity, all 66 of them! Nearly a third of these (21) are CD debuts, tracks that appear on CD for the first time ever.Even more exciting, Complete Pop Instrumental Hits of 1959 sports EIGHT iconic 1959 songs in real STEREO for the first time. These aren't just minor hits, but the biggest hits of the year in spectacular new STEREO that will knock your socks off. Check out the sound samples available elsewhere (search for CD Title + Listen). You won't believe your ears!
