This is a 17 track CD of covers of groovy and funky TV and Movie themes by British Acid Jazz label bands. Including the James Taylor Quartet, Mother Earth and Corduroy.

A wonderful collection of the latest acid jazz hits from the Italian label Irma records! The popularity of the label and a series of This Is Acid Jazz compilations led to the term being used to describe anything in styles similar to the label's acts. Acid Jazz music tends to be generally upbeat, jazzy pop-funk dance music played by traditional bands.

UK collection. It's been almost three years since Sean Hampsey and the Southern (California) Soul Spinners created "This Is Lowrider Soul" for Kent Records, and the ensuing acclaim and enjoyment have made this second volume essential. Only three artists are repeated, which shows the depth of the genre, and two of those - Barbara Mason with her Philly slow-burners and Lee Williams & the Cymbals' fantastic East Coast harmonies - epitomize the Lowrider soul sound between them.

Wewantsounds continues its collaboration with Bob Shad's grandchildren, Mia and Judd Apatow, to present a 2LP selection of 13 turntable-friendly Mainstream Records tracks recorded between 1970 and 1973 and showcasing the label's superb blend of Funk, Soul and Jazz. All tracks remastered from the original tapes, most of them released for the first time since their original release with a few highly sought-after ones. Liner notes by UK journalist Paul Bowler.The Mainstream sound is unmistakable: earthy, rich and funky, it's the signature sound of producer Bob Shad. After working with such geniuses as Charlie Parker, The Platters, Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin over three decades, Shad decided to go back to producing Great Black Music in the early 70s through his label Mainstream Records and started releasing a formidable series of jazz albums known as the 300 series.

Bob Thiele is one of the great producers. For his work with John Coltrane alone, where he gave free reign to the saxophone great's wildest musical visions including 'A Love Supreme', ignoring the usual cost consciousness of a major label, he deserves to be lauded. In addition to this his 8 years at Impulse saw him recording seminal works by scores of musicians including late blooming masterpieces by Ellington and Hodges, and a whole wave of 'new thing' jazzers such as Archie Shepp and Pharoah Sanders. He didn't stop there and when he launched his own label Flying Dutchman in 1969, he continued to innovate and record music that reflected its times, but that also resonates down through the ages.

This Is…Cult Fiction Royale collects 47 original television and film themes from the '60s and '70s like "Theme from Space 1999," "Theme from the Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "Theme from Dirty Harry" and "Theme from Get Carter." Much of it is from the source material (directly from the films and shows themselves), while others are from the original masters. Many of these tracks are available elsewhere, but there are enough obscurities to entice collectors of the genre. Important notice!
