In honor of what would have been Ray Charles’ 90th birthday year, Tangerine Records is releasing the limited edition box set, True Genius, on September 10th. The record label, which the late legend founded in 1962, has remastered 90 of Charles’ most important works for the six-CD box set.
Kevin Matthew Gilbert (November 20, 1966 – May 18, 1996, also known as Matthew Delgado and Kai Gilbert) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, composer, producer and collaborator. Gilbert was best known for his solo progressive rock projects, Toy Matinee and his contributions to Tuesday Night Music Club, the debut album by Sheryl Crow.
Following the success of previous RSD releases Bump ‘n’ Grind and Shadowland, Star King compiles more very rare ‘working’ and ‘master’ versions of T. Rex favourites, including a 12 minute jam of Children Of The Revolution, and one previously unreleased track. All are taken from original master tapes, and all appear on vinyl for the first time.
Irish rockers U2 celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by launching their “Virtual Road” concert series with the first-ever digital broadcast of U2 Go Home: Live From Slane Castle. The 2001 concert features the band at the legendary venue, just outside of Dublin.
Mozart composed some fifty symphonies, if we include works he adapted from opera overtures or serenades by adding movements or taking them away. The first dates from 1764-5, at the time of his childhood visit to London, and most are early works, quite short. Many are associated with his boyhood travels (his first trip to Italy in 1769-71, for instance) but his most prolific period as a symphonist was between 1771 and 1774 when, in Salzburg, he wrote no fewer than seventeen.
British conductor Sir John Barbirolli is remembered most for his relationship with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester, having saved the ensemble from dissolution in 1943. He spent the rest of his life with this ensemble. This release features Barbirolli conducting the Halle Orchestra, as well as the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Sinfonia of London. The works on this release are all by English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams, and were recorded between 1957 and 1962.
Pet Shop Boys announce the release on DVD and 2-CD of their “Discovery: Live in Rio 1994” concert, recorded towards the end of their 1994 tour of Singapore, Australia and Latin America.
