Rock, Latinp

An early-'70s spin-off group from El Chicano, Tierra kept plugging away until 1980, when they scored some brief success on the R&B charts doing Afro-Latin-flavored soul covers. Guitarist Rudy and trombonist/percussionist Steve Salas had both been in El Chicano. They teamed with keyboardist Joey Guerra, bassist Steve Falomir, drummer Philip Madayag, percussionist Andre Baeza, and Bobby Navarrete on reeds…

Utopic Sporadic Orchestra was really a one-off project led by MAGMA bassist Jannick Top. He invited many guests to play with him in this popular 3 day festival in France at "Nancy Jazz Pulsations" in 1975. This actual album consists of the song "De Futura" done twice. The first version was an over 23 1/2 minute rehearsal done the day before with the full 18 member lineup, while the second over 26 minute version was done the next day in front of thousands of people with that same 18 member lineup.

Central Park '75 Master is an Aerosmith bootleg from a recording performed live at the Shaeffer Music Festival at Woolman Rink in Central Park, New York, New York on 29 August, 1975. It has been booted a number of times under different titles, one of which I had but no longer own. As you can see, two of the tracks are listed as medleys but they are assembled that way by the person who put these files together. This was done in support of their albums Toys In The Attic.

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils were among the more popular of mid-'70s country-rock outfits, slotting in chronologically and stylistically between the Eagles and Firefall. As exponents of '70s country-rock, the group rode a wave of success for five years on A&M Records and survived in some form into the 1990s, with a following just large enough to justify occasional record releases in their later years…

Omnivore's 2013 double-disc set Buck Em! The Music of Buck Owens (1955-1967) provides an interesting spin on Buck Owens: through a collection of mono singles, live tracks, alternate takes, early 45s, and other rarities, it tells an alternate history of Buck's prime years. If there's a hit on this 50-track collection, it's almost always in a version that's slightly different than what usually shows up on a standard greatest-hits. "Second Fiddle," "Love's Gonna Live Here," "I Don't Care (Just as Long as You Love Me)," "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail," and "Before You Go" are all in mono, there's an early version of "Ain't It Amazing Gracie," and "Act Naturally" is live, so they're familiar enough to not feel jarring and they do provide the core of a collection that winds up wandering into some pretty interesting territory.

Esperanto is a language invented in 1887 by Zamenhof, who combined bits of various Romance language to make what he hoped would become a vehicle of universal communication. The Belgo-English band of the same name at the beginning of the 70s had a short but intense career and produced an extremely varied musical repertoire thanks to the many different nationalities, origins and outlooks of its members…
