Long before "La La Land" or "Birdman" Jazz was a perfect way to underscore and even enhance the action on the silver screen - not only in Hollywood, but all the way across Europe, too. Some of the best and most influential Original Jazz Soundtracks from the 1950s and early 1960s are documented in this unique 10 CD collection. Beginning with Miles Davis' iconic soundtrack to Louis Malle's "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud", whose leading actress Jeanne Moreau can be seen with the trumpeter on the cover of our box set, and leading all the way to Henry Mancini's score to Orson Welles' "Touch of Evil". In between you will enjoy American Jazz greats like Art Blakey, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Gerry Mulligan, and The Modern Jazz Quartet, but also legendary Polish composer Krzysztof Komeda with the score to one of Roman Polanski's first films "Knife In The Water", British Jazz-scores by Dizzy Reece and Johnny Dankworth, or soundtracks by French Jazz greats from Barney Wilen to Martial Solal.

Legends, magic, love and torments in music at the time of the „Tale of tales“. In 1643, in Naples, the probably most important collection of stories and folk tales of all times has been published: the „Pentamerone“ (the five-days-work) or „lo cunto de li cunti“ (the tale of tales) by Giambattista Basile. During five days each day ten tales are told. Basile with this work brought to live the genre of the Fairy Tale wich later on, adopted by the Grimm brothers, Perraut and Brentano, will spread like a wildfire all over Europe.

This compilation in the Verve Jazz in Paris reissue series gathers three separate recording sessions originally issued on various French EP discs. The first four tracks were recorded for the movie Les Tricheurs, with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, and Gus Johnson backing various horn soloists. The title track is a blues, composed on the spot, featuring Stan Getz and Roy Eldridge; the trumpeter easily wins the solo battle as Getz is a bit sloppy with several reed squeaks during his chance. Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, and Eldridge each are individually featured performing originals with the rhythm section, with Gillespie taking top honors for his driving bop tune "Mic's Jump"…

On September 12th, 2017, The Dear Hunter announced a headlining tour with The Family Crest and Vava. On September 13th, The Dear Hunter announced a six track EP entitled All Is As All Should Be. It will be released through Cave And Canary Goods. Last month, Casey Crescenzo tweeted that he'd finished vocals for a new record. Three weeks later, The Dear Hunter announced it would be going on tour in December. The band's website went down the next day, and fans knew something big was coming. Fans refreshed the page over the next hour, waiting for the announcement they knew had to come.

Soundtrack albums are generally music-minus-one affairs, the "one" being the film. The music for soundtracks is meant to accentuate the visual story but, taken by itself, it usually sounds very incomplete. This LP, only recommended to completists, mostly features Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in December 1958, playing short themes and sketches that were used in the French film Des Femmes Disparaissent. In addition, there are five longer segments from Les Tricheurs with such all-stars as Stan Getz, Roy Eldridge, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mezz Mezzrow, but once again these performances sound sketchy when standing by themselves without the film.
