R.E.M. - Live in Canada 1985 (2023)
MP3 320 kbps | 1:48:31 | 248 Mb
Genre: Alternative Rock / Label: Vintage Jukebox

R.E.M. marked the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock. When their first single, "Radio Free Europe," was released in 1981, it sparked a back-to-the-garage movement in the American underground. While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, R.E.M. brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional and modern. Though there were no overt innovations in their music, R.E.M. had an identity and sense of purpose that transformed the American underground.

The Manchester, England-based trio M People scored in 1994 with a series of British Top Ten hits from its debut album Elegant Slumming; both "Moving on Up" and "One Night in Heaven" became U.S. dance club smashes, thanks to an endearing mixture of house and R&B, and Heather Small's startling vocal presence. Fortunately, M People did not suffer the dreaded sophomore slump; the 1995 release Bizarre Fruit continues in much the same vein as its predecessor. Bizarre Fruit is chock-full of funky house grooves, and Small's deep, soulful vocals add just the right touch to the mix, making M People considerably warmer than most contemporary dance acts.

The Magic of Boney M was originally the title of a 1980 best of, although of the “20 Golden Hits” of 42 years ago, only 14 are repeated here, with the double A-side ‘I See A Boat On The River’ / ‘My Friend Jack’ being a notable omission (even if it wasn’t a hit in the UK).
1976 - the year of Boney M.'s first #1 hit "Daddy Cool" and the birth of an extraordinary music career that was to follow.
Boney M. can be considered the heroes of the disco era and there's no question why their best-of release was called "THE MAGIC OF BONEY M." was called
It has always been a memorial to this super group as it gathers the treasures of that era and definitely has its own magic!

"Several times, as I listened to M. Ward's Supernatural Thing, I asked myself what year it was. Was it 1952, and was I listening to a track from the Harry Smith Anthology? Was it 1972, and was I eavesdropping on the recording session for After the Gold Rush? No, it's 2023, and M. Ward is one of the special contemporary artists who invite such questions. Ward has clearly mastered the whole vocabulary of American popular music and made serious decisions about how to employ it for his own ends.
