The Boston Symphony Orchestra is one of the best orchestras in the world - because of its noble tone it is not called "the aristocrat among orchestras" for nothing. In the 1960s, when Erich Leinsdorf was music director, the orchestra's chamber music ensemble, the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, recorded several critically acclaimed albums for RCA, now reissued on CD for the first time.

A psychedelic blues-rock outfit whose only album, 1969's Please Tell a Friend, has enough interesting moments, given the era's production quirks, to make it a highly sought after period piece, Sugar Creek originated when John Edwards (who later, as Jonathan Edwards, had a big hit in 1971 with "Sunshine") and guitarist Malcolm McKinney met while both were attending Ohio University. The two drafted in Malcolm's brother Tod McKinney and began playing music together as St. James Doornob, becoming the Infinite Doornob when Joe Dolce and Gary Gans came over to join from the Finite Minds. Moving east to Boston, the band built a fair following on the New England/New York club circuit, changing its name yet again, this time to Headstone Circus, and eventually settled in as Sugar Creek…

Who is in a bad mood here, Max Raabe asks with his new album and sings about love, about its tender blossoming and fading, about feelings and their confusion. It is about the amalgamation of happiness and doubt, of euphoria and insecurity, of joy in others and quarrels with oneself.

Peter Green was regarded by some fans as the greatest white blues guitarist ever, Eric Clapton notwithstanding. Born Peter Greenbaum but calling himself Peter Green by the age of 15, he grew up in London's working-class East End. Green's early musical influences were Hank Marvin of the Shadows, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Freddie King, and traditional Jewish music. He originally played bass before being invited in 1966 by keyboardist Peter Bardens to play lead in the Peter B's, whose drummer was a lanky chap named Mick Fleetwood. The 19-year-old Green was with Bardens just three months before joining John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, whose rapidly shifting personnel included bassist John McVie and drummer Aynsley Dunbar.
