Walter Egan’s upcoming album titled Pluck, will be out in late November via Red Steel Music. The first single is a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”. Egan’s version is a must-hear, with a different approach, giving the song a fresh new sound that didn’t want me to run and put the Mac version on afterwards! In the late 70s members of Fleetwood Mac produced and played on Egan’s first 2 solo albums. The single was produced by Walter Egan and Robert Corich, while the video was filmed & directed by Callum Fernandes – Clarke.

Evangeline’s 2010 collection, matter-of-factly titled The Collection, is a two-CD set that offers Walter Egan’s first four albums – 1977’s Fundamental Roll, 1978’s Not Shy (which had his big hit, “Magnet and Steel”), 1979’s Hi-Fi, and 1980’s The Last Stroll – all digitally remastered and enhanced by two bonus tracks, “Bad News Travels Fast” and an a cappella take on “Magnet & Steel.” For serious Egan fans, this is a tidy way to pick up all of his prime material in one set.

This sophomore disc from the Chicago multi-instrumentalist (but mainly harpist/vocalist) Lester Davenport follows his solo debut by a whopping 11 years. Although it's impossible to justify the wait, this is a terrific West Side Chicago blues album, confirming he's an under-recognized and way under-recorded musician. Guitarist Jimmy Dawkins (who also produced) adds more authenticity to this rugged album, one that could have been recorded for Chess in the '60s. Well, except for a rollicking instrumental entitled "To Our Lost Ones 9/11/01," and even that ignores its contemporary title, capturing the spirit of Little Walter's glory days. Piano duties are shared equally by Detroit Junior (on tracks 1-7) and Allen Batts (on 8-13)…
