This is an outstanding collection from the vaults of King and its subsidiary labels, Federal and Deluxe. These 24 tracks collect jump blues, doo wop, piano boogie, and outright bizarre novelties stretching from the late '40s through the early '60s. There is not a bad track on Mule Milk 'N' Firewater, featuring plenty of well-known names on mainly wild up-tempo songs by Roy Brown, Big Jay McNeely, Little Willie John, Hank Ballad & the Midnighters, and Jack Dupree. There are a few standouts amongst these rarities that may raise a few eyebrows. "Ring a Ling Dong" is from 1955 by Rudy Moore aka Rudy Ray Moore of Dolomite fame, and "Davy, You Upset My Home" finds a young Joe Tex vividly describing how his domestic situation is being torn apart by his girlfriend's unhealthy obsession with all things Davy Crockett! Unbelievable!
England's Westside label has released four two-disc sets that spotlight labels owned by George Goldner in the '50s and '60s: Rama, Gee, Gone, and End. The End Story collects 63 rock and R&B cuts recorded from 1957-1965 for the End label, from big hits by the Flamingos and Little Anthony & the Imperials to total obscurities by forgotten artists. Most of the recordings are doo wop and R&B with only a handful of rockers – far fewer rock cuts, overall, than appear on The Gone Story. For a number of artists, End was a stopover on the way to or from greener commercial pastures: the Bobbettes, Little Richard, the Shells, and the Teenagers after Frankie Lymon left to pursue a solo career.
This 2 disc set brings together 61 tracks from this early George Goldner run label. Although Rama only had a three year run as a label, they made significant inroads, especially as a doo-wop specialist with seminal tracks from the Crows ("Gee"), the Wrens ("Come Back My Love"), the Valentines ("Lily Maybelle") and the Heartbeats ("A Thousand Miles Away"). But there's also some errant pop sides and some fine rockabilly aboard as well from Don "Red" Roberts, Little Billy Mason (a white Frankie Lymon sound-alike with guitar band backing), and Roc LaRue. A delightful two disc set that shows off the many sides of this interesting label.
Warner Bros. Records is collaborating with Netflix for the exclusive music soundtrack of Westside, Netflix's first ever unscripted music series. The series follows the lives of nine young artists struggling for success in today's high-pressure music industry. On November 9th, the unscripted eight-episode series launches globally on Netflix, same day and date as the release of WESTSIDE: THE MUSIC, the official 20-song soundtrack on Warner Bros. Records. Two songs featured in the show's trailer are available now on all DSPs.
West Side's Ridin' That Midnight Train: Starday King Recordings 1958-1961 whittles down these legendary Stanley Brothers recordings into a manageable portion of bluegrass home fries (King's 109-track Early Starday-King Years 1958-1961 is not for the Stanley novice). Though the scene had changed much since the Stanley Brothers' '40s and early-'50s heydays, they managed to lay down some of the best work of their careers during this period, making this an excellent choice for longtime fans or those looking to build a respectable bluegrass collection.

From the remastered sound to the presence of various outtakes (including lost live tracks), the 30th anniversary triple-disc Movements is as definitive a set as we'll ever have on this band, containing everything except for the Message From the Country album…
