Intermittently on the road as an acoustic duo between gaps in the schedules of their respective ultra-hip fusion bands, Larry Coryell and Steve Khan managed to record several shows and then panned the tape stream to find the nuggets for posterity. There are choices that might have been made out of the fashions of the day, such as the version of Chick Corea's "Spain" that opens the album's first side. Thankfully there are also selections that are here because both guitarists must have realized they were playing magnificently.

Less than four months after issuing the landmark and autobiographical Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Elton John re-emerged with a new band and a slightly modified sound. Another World is my second favorite Roches album (after the first) although it has some very serious flaws. It was their fourth album (as a trio) and final album for Warners. Conventional wisdom says this is one of their weakest albums, maybe the weakest. Of course conventional wisdom is often wrong, as it is here

This November, Sony’s Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. will reissue a 50th anniversary edition of Jimi Hendrix‘s third and final studio album Electric Ladyland.
