As proof that Ace remains committed to the music that helped build its reputation as a foremost archivist of vintage R&B, this month we bring you our second package chronicling the output of Modern’s longest-running subsidiary of the 1950s, RPM. “Speak Easy” joins the RPM catalogue at the end of 1953 – the point where we left it on the first volume – and carries on through to the label’s final releases of late 1957. Although the focus is primarily on blues and R&B, a smattering of pop and rockabilly is also included. Every one of the important artists to record for RPM is heard on at least one selection – more in the case of bigger names such as B.B. King.
The music of Souvenance, by turns graceful, hypnotic, and taut and starkly dramatic, was recorded in 2014 – six years after oud-master Anouar Brahem’s last ECM album, “The Astounding Eyes of Rita”. “It took a long time to write this music,” he acknowledges, noting that his emotional world had been usurped by the unfolding story of political upheaval sweeping first through Tunisia then through the neighbouring countries. Extraordinary waves of change, accompanied by great hopes and fears. “I don’t claim a direct link between my compositions and the events taking place in Tunisia,” says Anouar, “but I have been profoundly influenced by them.” New directions for the music find Francois Couturier returning to the Brahem group, frequently supported by subtle string orchestration.

Sayer Seely started his musical life in the late 80's inspired by Synergy and other synthesizer music like Kraftwerk. By 1997 he started recording his first CDs which he distributed among his friends and in 1999 he started puting his music online which resulted in his first sales which are now out of print. Afterwards he released his first CD on a label in 2003 and took a break after which he started working more in music again in the 2010's.
Recorded and released live on the night at the London Forum, 11 December 2014.
