The Academic : Les académiques en VF. Au même titre que les Inrockuptibles et le Port-Salut, le groupe irlandais d'indie rock, qui fête cette année ses dix ans d'existence, porte sur lui la marque de ce qu'il est, et désolé de vous gâcher la surprise, mais ce n'est pas l'originalité. Piochant d'influences en influences au gré des productions, les académiques se sont d'abord fait remarquer en rejouant de l'indie rock des années 2000 en 2018, dans un Tales From The Backseat qui sentait bon les Strokes et le rock californien, avec quelques touches de Catfish & The Bottlemen, prédécesseurs gallois de la repompe efficace de la discographie de Weezer et cie.

Their debut album "Tales From The Backseat" was released in 2018, but since then they have continued to release snotty, melodic indie rock singles like "Not Your Summer" and "Community Spirit" (both 2021) - or EPs like "Acting My Age" (2020).

What a great album - imagine Julee Cruise doing the soundtrack to Killing Eve? Or Mazzy Star miraculously transported back to ye-ye France. A heady air of dislocation envelops Drab City’s debut album, where songs of innocence and experience merge with dub, hip-hop, dream-pop and jazzy soundtrack vibes to intoxicating effect.

During the 1970s, Polydor licensed a large amount of soul and funk material. Masters, originally produced by independent record producers, or indie labels. High quality but very rare tracks, released on Polydor between 1972 and 1980. Soulful and less poppy songs, often relegated to B-sides, originally pressed in minute quantities.

It’s been seven years since Maverick Sabre first arrived on the UK scene as a fresh-faced Irish (but London born) rapper with a brassy singing voice. Championed by Plan B, his music drew a line between the Irish, American and UK rap scenes he grew up on and the timeless blues and trad Irish music of his family’s heritage. His debut album, Lonely Are The Brave, was a roaring success, arriving at #2 on the UK album charts and going on to sell over 250,000 copies.
