Born in Daejeon, south of Seoul, Kim has been playing the flute since he was nine years old. In 2013, at the age of 16, Kim moved to France to join the National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Lyon. At 19, he joined the Konzerthausorchester Berlin as the orchestra's youngest-ever principal flutist. Kim was awarded first prize in the flute category at the ARD International Music Competition last year.
