"Avalon is inspired by an ancient Celtic myth of an island in dense fog where the Holy Grail is said to be located, King Arthur is buried and where Excalibur is hidden. I use it as a metaphor for the present time in which we live in which it is not clear to anyone what the world will look like after the pandemic. The single Avalon is a dreamy piece of music that is also used for the exhibition in De Fundatie that will run until the spring of 2021."

From the very time that he entered the jazz scene in the early nineties, saxophonist Yuri Honing found new ways to move people with his slightly melancholic sound and crystal clear constructions he used for his improvisations. Since then he has performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Charlie Haden. His album Memory Lane is a ballad album that shows Honing's lyrical side. For this project he invited some of the finest musicians from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra to create a large ensemble with strings, woodwind and rhythm section. This SACD sounds as if you were there in the studio as it was recorded.

After the thematic albums 'True' (2012 inspired by Berlin and David Bowie). 'Desire' (2015, an instrumental opera about longing), 'Goldbrun' (2017 a homage to Europe and Honing's interest in European art music) and 'Bluebeard' (2020, a dark album mainly inspired by the 300-year-old fairy tale of the same name), there is now 'Heaven on my mind'.

Tony Overwater is an award winning bass player whose sound and unique way of playing have established him as a key player in the European music world. He is a remarkable solo performer and leader of his own projects but also a collaborative and attentive sideman. Saxophonist Yuri Honing comes after the successful album Desire, again with a jazz album that breathes peace, serenity, tension and mysticism. The inspiration comes from Honing's love for classical music, history and art. The central theme and motive for this album is Europe and heroism. In those times when people do not always realize the value of Europe and of 70 years of peace, Honing tells a binding story. During his research into the history of Europe, he chose Germany as a symbol of Europe. Because of their many good writers, philosophers, composers and painters. And because of its resilience and the leadership role they now take in Europe. He attributes to more proudness of among Europeans of the cultural DNA of our their continent.

Jazz saxophonist Yuri Honing issued his album of modern pop cover songs, Star Tracks, in 1996. Three years later, following the same format, Sequel was released. He made the Top 100 Dutch album charts in 2009 with the Verve release Phase Five, which featured dance producer Floris Klinkert sampling Honing's saxophone to create new compositions.
