Frank Vincent Zappa was of Italian origins, his grandfather having arrived in America from Partinico, Sicily. Frank Zappa grew to be one of the most accomplished composers of the rock era, his music combining an understanding and appreciation for such contemporary classical figures as Igor Stravinsky, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Edgard Varèse. These influences, coupled with an affection for late '50s doo-wop, rock & roll and skillful guitar-heavy rock, dominated pop in the '70s. However, Zappa was also a keen satirist, whose reserves of scorn and parody seemed bottomless and whose wicked sense of humor and absurdity continued to delight his numerous fans - even when his lyrics crossed the broadest bounds of taste.

Frank Zappa's tour in the fall of 1975 took him to two cities in Yugoslavia and was the first and only time he performed in that country. This 2CD set brings together performances from both shows, recorded live in Zagreb on November 21 and in Ljubljana on November 22, 1975. This release features a rare band lineup of The Mothers, with Norma Bell on saxophone and vocals. After the European and Australian tour in early 1976, FZ finally stopped using The Mothers name. Remixed from the original 1/2" 8-track tape masters by Craig Parker Adams and mastered by John Polito, this historic set is the only multi-track document of this group in the Vault.

CUCAMONGA is a collection of Frank Zappa recordings from the pre-Mothers Of Invention days of the early '60s. Equally enamored of Hubert Sumlin and Edgard Varese, Frank Zappa's musical experimentation in the early '60s was a springboard for his more ambitious latter work. Collaborating with fellow technical iconoclast Paul Buff, Zappa produced and played much of this material at Buff's Pal Recording Studio. At the time, Zappa signed to Bob Keane's Del-Fi Records for a series of singles released under different pseudonyms and with different musicians.
