Competent but unremarkable mid-'70s soul on the verge of fusing with adult contemporary into urban contemporary music. This collection assembles 19 tracks from the three LPs that she cut for RCA in the mid-'70s, emphasing the singer-songwriter's original material.

The 43 Ghiribizzi M.S. 43 is the last organic collection of works for solo guitar by Paganini. Written in Naples around 1820, they represent the last stage of a long journey into the guitar world beginning at least twenty years before when the composer was still far from being “Paganini”, and was making his first steps into the musical world during the years of Napoleonic domination over most part of Italy. Although the technical demands of the 43 Ghiribizzi are generally inferior to those of the 37 Sonatas or the Grand Sonata, they are still pieces written by Paganini; so the musical results are rich in inventiveness, pleasant themes and perfectly idiomatic writing for the instrument. In the hands of a gifted guitarist, not only with excellent technique but with a plentiful dose of imagination and interpretative flair, they can be very enjoyable and of sure effect, as it is shown by the constant popularity that these 43 small delicious compositions have in the world of the contemporary guitar world.

After Paganini and his Caprices (as well as his concerts, obviously for the soloist part), the violin wasn’t the same anymore: Paganini, besides launching an original new way of performing the violin, operated a synthesis between the Ancient and the Romantic styles, going beyond and anticipating our days as well. He started with the musical instruments he knew, like the mandolin (which he studied in his youth), the guitar (the six-chord one, which he never left), the grand viola (the five-chord instrument he had specially made) and the violin. He chose the mixed form of the Caprice, so that he could be free to use counterpoint, harmony, singability (from his knowledge of the Opera), imitation and, most importantly, rhythmic and tonal variety. From the Caprices we understand Paganini’s familiarity with Rossini, his deep knowledge of the Opera and of its world, and with Berlioz. Many Caprices take inspiration from a range of orchestral sounds (the flute, the horns, the fanfare) or imitate the mandolin. From a melody perspective, the Caprices astonish for their uniqueness and beauty. From the point of view of the harmonics, they mesmerize: they are masterpieces and Schumann was among the first ones to recognize them as such.

An R&B vocalist who puts her own contemporary spin on classic Southern soul, Ms. Jody has become a favorite in blues and soul circles for her often witty songs that speak the truth about life and love. Ms. Jody is the stage name of Joanne Vertie Delapaz, who was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 10, 1957. When Delapaz was two years old, her family moved to Bay Springs, Mississippi, where she still lives today. Her father was a minister, and she grew up on gospel music. Delapaz says she's been singing as far back as she can remember; growing up in the country, she would sing to the birds and animals as a child, and in 1975 she graduated to performing in her dad's church. Delapaz sang in church for over two decades, but after the death of her father and the end of her first marriage, she dropped out of music for a while.

The E-Z Rollers are a British drum and bass group The group was formed in 1995 in Norfolk, England.One of their first hits was "Rolled into 1", and other tracks included: their single "Short Change" which was a part of GTA2s soundtrack by Rockstar Games; "Cop Theme" which was a part of the Sled Storm soundtrack; The Origin Unknown remix of "Tough At The Top"; "Soundclash" part of the Rollcage soundtrack, and "Breakbeat Generation" which can be heard in the introduction of Rollcage Stage II. Their song "Walk This Land" was heard in the film, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The track peaked at #18 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1999. Their songs "Retro" and "Soundclash" can also be heard on the video game TOCA 2 Touring Cars by Codemasters.

With The Fairy Queen, Sébastien d’Hérin and Les Nouveaux Caractères set down on record their musical vision of one of Henry Purcell’s most compelling dramatic works. The 1692/1693 work dates from around half a century before two other Baroque scores which Les Nouveaux Caractères has tackled recently and received significant critical approval: Leclair’s Scylla et Glaucus and Rameau’s Les Surprises de l’Amour (the latter, like The Fairy Queen, appearing on Glossa).
