The third full-length and Atlantic Records debut from Shaina Taub, Songs of the Great Hill came to life over the course of countless daily trips to the enchanted spot of its title. In the bleakest days of lockdown, the New York City-based singer/songwriter would head to the North Woods of Central Park with notebook in hand, then set to work on the incandescent batch of songs that now comprise the album. “It felt very much like a metaphor for the time we were all living through—trying to trudge up this great big hill with some sense of grace, looking for some kind of hope in all the dread and isolation,” recalls Taub, also a multi-award-winning composer and actor in musical theater. “After a while, it felt like I was writing into existence all the songs I needed to hear.”

Vocalist Rebecca Jade has carried a journal in her backpack ever since she was a college athlete at UC Berkeley. She journaled her thoughts, feelings, reflections and experiences in the form of poetry and song lyrics. However, although she sang and came up with the album title “A Shade of Jade,” she didn’t consider herself to be a songwriter and didn’t have the confidence to put out original material, so she just toted the notebook around thinking “one day.” That day has arrived. Jade opened the pages of her journal to create ten R&B, jazz and pop songs that she wrote and co-produced with Carnell Harrell for “A Shade of Jade,” which drops October 14 from LadyJade Music.

It’s ten years since ANE BRUN marked her first decade as a recording artist with the release of SONGS 2003-13, a career-encapsulating double album. Now, with her international reputation flourishing, SONGS 2013-23 available as a digipack CD and 180gram double vinyl ,allows the distinguished, platinum-selling Norwegian singer songwriter to celebrate her second decade in the business – not to mention her multiple Norwegian and Swedish Grammy awards – while also illustrating the ongoing, fascinating evolution of her singular, compelling talent. Combining tracks from 2015’s extrovert When I’m Free and the pandemic era’s twin releases, 2020’s richly textured After The Great Storm and the more fragile, intimate How Beauty Holds The Hand Of Sorrow, the collection also offers a possible indication of Brun’s next moves with a brand new song, ‘Hand In The Fire’. Like its predecessors, the album is released by her own label, Balloon Ranger, and epitomises the fiercely independent Brun’s blend of boldly uplifting sentiments and comfortingly melancholic melodies delivered by one of the era’s most compassionate voices.
