These contributions, written by the foremost international researchers and practitioners of Genetic Programming (GP), explore the synergy between theoretical and empirical results on real-world problems, producing a comprehensive view of the state of the art in GP.

The 170 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 557 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on learning and information processing, data mining, retrieval and management, bioinformatics and bio-inspired models, agents and hybrid systems, financial engineering, as well as a special session on nature-inspired date technologies.

This book integrates two areas of computer science, namely data mining and evolutionary algorithms. Both these areas have become increasingly popular in the last few years, and their integration is currently an area of active research. In general, data mining consists of extracting knowledge from data. In this book we particularly emphasize the importance of discovering comprehensible and interesting knowledge, which is potentially useful to the reader for intelligent decision making.
