Alberto Ponticello

Born in 1949, Fabio Vacchi stands among the pre-eminent Italian composers of his generation. Working primarily in the operatic field, he has had pieces staged at the Teatro alla Scala and by the Opéra Comique in Paris, the Opera de Lyon, the Maggio Musicale in Florence and the Teato Comunale in his home city of Bologna. Vacchi’s instrumental pieces have attracted similar high-profile performances. His chamber cycle Luoghi Immaginari (1987-1992), has been given across the world, including at the Salzburg Mozarteum conducted by Daniel Harding. Other pieces were commissioned by Claudio Abbado and by the Tokyo Quartet.

South America pays tribute to the historic and contemporary ingenuity of musicians and composers from South America, including Astor Piazzolla, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Carlos Gardel, Antonios father the violinist Alberto Lysy, and new work by the Argentine bandoneon master Coco Trivisonno. In South America, Antonio and Yarlung break new ground once again, using SonoruS Holographic Imaging technology to enable Antonio to play every part in a cello orchestra.

Sicilia, 1989. In vacanza a Taormina nello svogliato tentativo di salvare la sua relazione con la giovane e forse troppo solare Marta, Alberto, talent scout e agente di spettacolo, vede in tivù Elmo X, il più sovversivo stand-up comedian della storia italiana, ardere in un rogo sulla spiaggia di Riccione. Si tratta di un incidente, come sostiene il suo entourage, o di un tentato suicidio, come sussurrano le malelingue e i tanti detrattori che Elmo si è guadagnato con i suoi caustici monologhi sui vizi del Paese? È un enigma persino per Alberto, che di Elmo è stato amico e manager degli esordi, fino all'inspiegabile licenziamento quando erano all'apice del successo. C'è qualcosa nel gesto tanto clamoroso di Elmo che suona come un grido di aiuto rivolto proprio a lui, e così Alberto decide di infrangere il voto del silenzio che lo teneva separato dall'amico e da un periodo della sua vita tanto vivido quanto doloroso…

Sylvano Bussotti (1931-2021) counts among the most original and underappreciated composers working in the second half of the last century. He became famous – notorious – in the 1960s for ‘graphic’ scores which required considerable realisation on the part of the performer. His early work, however, is invested with a rhythmic regularity, a clarity of phrase structure and a lyricism reminiscent of Luigi Dallapiccola.
