Johann Pachelbel was born in Nuremberg and was both a gifted organist and composer. He wrote prolifically not only for his own instrument but also for chamber ensembles of various kinds. His celebrated Canon and Gigue in D major for three violins and basso continuo come from a manuscript collection preserved in Berlin.

The organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach stands as a singular monument both in the history of music for this instrument and in the career of Helmut Walcha. Walcha lost his sight at an early age, and played music only through memory, helped by his mother and, later, his wife, who played the music on piano, one voice at a time. Bob van Asperen (born 8 October 1947 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch harpsichordist and early keyboard instrument performer, as well as a conductor. He graduated in 1971 from the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he studied the harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt and the pipe organ with Albert de Klerk. Since then he has been performing extensively in Europe and the rest of the world, both as a soloist and as an accompanist/conductor.
