Aleksandra Orbeck Nilssen

Aleksandra Brejza is a graduate of the Department of Composition and Theory of Music of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz in the composition class of Prof. Franciszek Wozniak. She participated in the Young Composer Courses organized by the Polish Composers’ Union (1988) and in the International Composers’ Courses held as part of the Bartók Seminar in Szombathely, Hungary (1992).

Commissioned for Kronos Quartet by The Sea Ranch in celebration of the famed community's 50th birthday, Aleksandra Vrebalov's new work for string quartet, The Sea Ranch Songs, connects with the spirit, landscape, and architecture of this grand experiment in environmental stewardship, land development, and intentional community planning. Featuring rare documented sounds from the Northern California coastal town and its wild surroundings, this sumptuous multimedia work includes a dreamlike cinematic exploration by videographer Andrew Lyndon on a bonus DVD. Meditative, majestic and inspirational, The Sea Ranch Songs delves into the stunning panoramas and metaphysical geography of this magical place, where the paths of people and nature are harmoniously intertwined.

Aleksandra Gryka is undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic and fascinating figures of the young generation of Polish composers. She does not comment on her works, does not give interviews, and does not provide critics with an insight into her scores (which even causes the occasional international scandal).
