Art of Life Records is pleased to present, “Above and Below: The Music of Allan Holdsworth - Volume 1”. Featuring twenty five different musicians from around the globe, “Above and Below” was conceived as a tribute to the late guitarist Allan Holdsworth and his unique original compositions. Rather than perform Allan’s music note-for-note, each artist has interpreted each of Allan’s songs in their own unique way making the songs their own and in many cases creating new versions of Allan’s songs that bear little if any resemblance to their originals making this album a real tribute to Allan and his music.

A true masterpiece, Secrets is the massive culmination of Allan Holdsworth's years-long legato technique and SynthAxe development. Conceptually inspired by but significantly different from the electric guitar, the SynthAxe is not a guitar-controlled synthesizer; it's a completely unique instrument of its own, making the guitarist's gripping performances all the more impressive…

Guitarist Allan Holdsworth was widely considered one of the finest instrumentalists in all of jazz fusion, yet never truly received the recognition that he so rightfully deserved. Born on August 6, 1946, in Bradford, Yorkshire, Holdsworth was originally taught music by his father, who was a pianist. He didn't pick up the guitar until he was 17 years old, but learned the instrument quickly. After playing in local outfits (and learning the violin), Holdsworth relocated to London, where he was taken under the wing of saxophonist Ray Warleigh.

The idea was born in a pub in London UK between Ollie usiskin and Enrico Pinna. It was about a week after Allan’s Passing. We were shocked and we felt we needed to do something special to remember him and honour his legacy. THe idea was to make a tribute record trying to have as many famous musicians playing allan’s tracks for a chairty to create a new music contest &festival. We were impressed seeing how many great musicians agreed to play on our project straight away and with great respect for Allan and his music. It has been a 4 years journey, recording, sending tracks all over the world to record the guests, mixing and mastering the tracks, finding solutions for creating a new festival and the music contest…all slowed down by pandemic lockdowns and many other obstacoles, but we are getting there now and we are proud to have found a way to honour his name.

Guitar legend Allan Holdsworth has had a career that has spanned nearly fifty years and is considered by many to be the guitarists' guitarist and a guitar genius that has created a playing style and sound unlike any other. Holdsworth was inducted into Guitar Player's "Hall of Fame" in 1991, his influence has crossed many genre lines including rock, jazz, and metal. EIDOLON: The Allan Holdsworth Collection is a Double CD collection of 28 songs hand picked by Allan himself from his many solo albums beginning with his 1982 release I.O.U. Also included in this collection is a previously unreleased rare alternative version of "Road Games" with the legendary Jack Bruce on vocals. After listening to EIDOLON, the rest of the world will finally see why a Guitar World magazine cover story proclaimed, "He's as influential as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, and Eddie Van Halen," and a Guitar Player Magazine Cover.proclaimed Allan Holdsworth as "The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever!"

This 1992 release features Holdsworth in conversation with usual compatriots Jimmy Johnson, Chad Wackerman, and Gary Husband. Keyboards are provided not only by Steve Hunt, but also by both Wackerman and Husband. Husband in particular demonstrates that his facility on the keyboards is equal to his skill on the drums. Despite the all-star cast of characters, there are certain peculiarities to Wardenclyffe Tower that prevent it from being numbered among Holdsworth's best work.
