Amber Coffman is best known as a singer and guitarist for the genre-bending Dirty Projectors. Co-produced by head Projector Dave Longstreth, City of No Reply proves Coffman a dynamic songwriter in her own right, from the off-kilter girl-group shoop of “No Coffee” to the dusky, Caribbean inflections of the title track. “There’s a voice inside of me/And it’s time to listen,” Coffman sings amid the ‘50s-ish lilt of “All to Myself.” Time to let it out, too.

Yoko Ono's catalog isn't easy to navigate or even define at times. Even when John Lennon was on board as a collaborator – band member, producer or cheerleader – her music could be willfully difficult and stubbornly uncommercial. She's a singular artist, maybe more so than her late husband and his famous band, which makes any tribute to her vast recorded work an uphill charge not exactly suited for the easily intimidated. The 14 brave souls who tackle Ono's music on Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono can't truly replicate her distinctive path, and much of the source material hinges on her artist's right to explore those paths via routes of her choosing. In other words, they're not songs in the traditional sense. There have been some interpretable tracks over the years: "Who Has Seen the Wind?," "Listen, the Snow Is Falling" and "Walking on Thin Ice" are close enough to pop music.

Mount Wittenberg Orca is named so because it is about whales, it was inspired by events on Mt. Wittenberg in California, and because it elaborates on David Longstreth's obsession with vocal harmony introduced on Dirty Projectors' 2009 album Bitte Orca. This seven-song, twenty-one minute collection is the first original music the band has recorded since Bitte Orca, and it feels more like a small album than an EP. It is also their most staggering collaboration yet — with the Icelandic artist Björk.

This double cd pack is more than a simple anthology. It starts with a complete John Cale-overseen remaster of the long out-of-print 1982 album "Music for a new society", along with 3 exclusive new tracks. But the real meat of the work is M:Fans, a complete reworking of the entire original 1982 album, to which the remastered "Music for a new society" serves merely as preface. "John Cale re-contextualises the original songs into radical new forms to resonate with the digital age. Includes a new recording of 'Back To The End' - a previously lost track from the original session."

Major Lazer’s animated “frontman” might be a bearded, beret-wearing soldier-cyborg who appears to have been lifted from a lost G.I. Joe episode, but the group itself is so much more. Beyond core members Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire, Major Lazer is a moveable feast—the product of all its principals’ musical influences, their collaborators, and the places to which they've traveled in their decade of existence. Essentials is a sprawling introduction to the band’s biggest tracks and a glimpse into the vast array of cultures it folds into its cohesive musical vision. Recorded at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio in Jamaica, 2009’s “Pon de Floor” mixes dancehall and Brazilian baile funk with a few choice lines from Kingston deejay Vybz Kartel. A languid house beat underpins “Lean On,” their 2015 team-up with France’s DJ Snake and Danish singer MØ. And Bruno Mars, Tyga, and Mystic feature on 2013’s more-than-suggestive, hip-hop-inspired dance track “Bubble Butt.” In addition to those and plenty of other key singles, Essentials also includes four newer tracks: Collabs with Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Kizz Daniel, and Babes Wodumo weave Afrobeats and gqom vibes seamlessly into Major Lazer’s borderless sound.

Vancouver artist Nicholas Krgovich possesses an unswerving back catalogue of sleek 'future-pop' releases. His solo work has seen him collaborate with the likes of Mount Eerie, Nite Jewel, Amber Coffman (Dirty Projectors) and Kathryn Calder (New Pornographers), and create inimitable, shimmering R&B inspired indie-pop albums, that take as much inspiration from the glitz and glamour of LA as they do the inward conflicts of an accomplished musician finding his way in this world. Krgovich's new record however, is a vivid and candid account of heartbreak – something previously new to him. OUCH is released via revered indie label Tin Angel Records.
