After 15 years of waiting: Audio portraits of Oslo's tragic-heroes by Norway's least Nordic piano trio.The idea for the album came to Aarum after reading "Oslo originals" - a book about the fascinating residents from the Norwegian capital's history. Each track on the album, he decided, would paint a portrait of one of these personalities. Take "El Jucan", a tribute to Einar Olsen, who walked the streets as a fakir, swallowed swords, flames and glass and lay on a bed of nails. In an inspiring twist of serendipity, the recording studio happened to be in the immediate vicinity of a mental hospital. This set the mood perfectly, as many of the personalities captured on the album battled with alcoholism and deteriorating psychological health. The entire album, the first one by the current line-up of the trio after 15 years, was recorded in a single 1,5 hour short session. Thanks to this impressive achievement, the Anders Aarum trio are now originals as well. They, too, have now become part of the Oslo puzzle.

A great hardswinging album with lots of fire..groove and a lovely mix os 60s-70s jazz psychedelia.. if you like Herbie Hancock mwandishi…you will love this..or if you like ……. Brew ..Coltrane -Love supreme. This isn't so much a recreation as it is a reinvestigation of the fusion genre in that brief period thirty odd years ago when the idea was rife with positive implications and before the sterility set in. While this program isn't as radical in its departure from the norm as Miles Davis' music from that period was (what is?) it still burns with greater intensity than more established names seem to muster.

This mob, perhaps as a kind of homage to "the mob," takes no prisoners. It deals in a brand of fusion in which the immediacy of the moment is of paramount importance and the niceties and established intensities of the medium smack too much of politeness and a lack of engagement with the urgency of being alive. This set, caught live at the Molde International Jazz Festival in July 2006, proclaims it all from the rooftops.
