Andre Previn was a celebrated German/American pianist, composer and conductor, whose long career – he died in 2019 at the age of 89 – encompassed movie music, jazz and classical music. He composed or arranged music for more than 50 films, and was music al director and conductor for many top symphony orchestra as well as composing classical art music. This collection focuses on his early career as a jazz pianist. His family, who were Jewish, left Berlin for Paris and then the USA in 1938, and when he graduated from high school in Los Angeles in 1946, started working at MGM studios. However, by then he was already playing jazz piano in Hollywood clubs and had made his first records. This 66-track 3-CD collection comprises most of his recordings from these early years as a solo pianist, with small groups and with strings, released on the Sunset, V-Disc, Monarch, RCA-Victor and Tops labels. It includes the titles from his “Andre Previn Plays George Gershwin” and “Andre Previn Plays Fats Waller” albums. He was especially noted for his recordings with his trios, and this set features trio and quartet recordings with Irving Ashby, Red Callender, Lee Young, Al Viola, Charles Parnell, Jackie Mills, Bob Bain, Ralph Collier, Lloyd Pratt, Art Shapiro, Irv Cottler, Al Hendrickson Buddy Clark and Shelly Manne. Among his remarkable musical accomplishments, he was a brilliant pianist, and even at this early stage of his career, his playing is fast, fluent and imaginative, and this collection offers a fine showcase for those talents.

From a very early age, André Rieu knew that there was something magical about waltz music. Defining this magic and making it accessible for everyone became his life’s mission so he was crowned by his audiences as “King of The Waltz”. Magic of the Waltz presents the most beautiful and enchanting waltzes, selected, curated, performed, and even composed, by André himself. These are just a few of the musical highlights: the brand new “Windsor Waltz”, written for the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday, the famous “Blue Danube”, “Edelweiss”, “The Godfather” as well as the incredible “And The Waltz Goes On”.

CD “Music of the night” When the sun goes down after a beautiful day, a quiet stillness pervades the surroundings. The sounds of the daytime fall away, with just a bird here and there singing a last song for the night… I love that transient time of day. It brings warmth to my heart. Music of the Night, my new CD, is inspired by that very atmosphere and I hope the music I have selected to record for you re-creates just that ambience, whenever you choose to listen to it. So let yourself feel the warmth of the sun’s last rays, or stare into the fireplace’s last embers on a winter’s evening while you dream away to Yesterday, When winter comes, Hymne à l’amour and the many other beautiful melodies for the night.

The peerless Takacs Quartet recently nominated for a Gramophone award for their second disc of Brahms's string quartets, continue their exploration of the Romantic chamber music tradition with this disc of Schumann. The Piano Quintet is by far Schumann's most popular chamber work and one of the most beloved works in the genre. Schumann was the first romantic composer to pair the piano with the string quartet. Schumann studied the string quartets of Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn and his quartet Op. 41 No. 3 demonstrates these influences. However, it contains many highly original strokes, particularly the casting of the scherzo as a set of variations. The Takacs Quartet are joined by Marc-Andre Hamelin in an invigorating partnership that has already been widely acclaimed on the concert platform.
