Camille (Audrey Tautou), an art school dropout, works as a cleaner, or "surface engineer" as she likes to be called. L'action se déroule à Paris, au cours d'une année. Une jeune femme, Camille, se lie d'amitié avec ses deux voisins, Philibert et Franck, puis s'installe chez eux pour connaître plus de confort, de réconfort. En harmonie, ces trois personnages que tout oppose, dans leur caractère comme dans leur histoire familiale, retrouvent le goût de vivre. Au-delà des disputes, des réconciliations, des querelles, des complicités, le plaisir d'être « ensemble » les rend plus fort.
