Beggar Julia's Timetrip is based on a story of a man who travels through time in a spaceship and observes the great composers at work. Thus, the story is of course a perfect setting for introducing some rock/jazz versions of Albinoni's Adagio, Bach's Italian Concerto and Tchaikovsky's piano concerto garnished with some Beethoven.

Ekseption was a Dutch progressive rock ensemble with changing membership, active from 1967 to 1989, growing out of the bands The Jokers and Incrowd. The group started out playing jazz, pop and R&B covers. Impressed by a gig of The Nice, the members, of which the most famous is Rick van der Linden, decided to concentrate on producing classical rock, modern re-interpretations of classical works. Most of their albums contain both original songs and re-interpreted classical pieces.

Who was this Antoine Brumel? He was a difficult person in every respect and a selfwilled and eccentric composer. A difficult personality is not unusual for a musician, yet his idiosyncrasy was recognized even in his own lifetime.
According to the standards of his time, Brumel's music knows no boundaries, is daring and never strictly academic. Whether this concerns imaginative musical structures, the working-out of counterpoint or the writing of repetitive forms - it is always more or less "outrageous".
The most fascinating of Brumel's works is without a doubt his twelve-part mass ET ECCE TERRAE MOTUS.

Amongst the many recordings made by the internationally renowned conductor Jaap van Zweden have been highly successful cycles of the complete symphonies of Beethoven and Brahms. He is currently working on a series of Hybrid SACDs with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic for Octavia and Challenge Classics featuring the symphonies of Anton Bruckner, and recordings of Nos. 2, 4, 5, 7 8 and 9 have already been released to great critical acclaim. This disc features the Third Symphony in D minor, which was dedicated to Richard Wagner.
