The motets of Johann Ludwig Bach occupy an outstanding position within this genre. Though rooted firmly in the shorter motets from the Thuringian tradition, nonetheless they reach dimensions which are seldom observed in that tradition. This is also true with respect to polychoral music, which here is raised from the exception to the rule – on the other hand, it is valid, when one bears in mind the necessity of representing the prestige of a royal court. Varying ensembles and dialogue-like passages contribute to these richly expressive compositions. Without a doubt these motets by the “Meininger Bach,“ highly regarded by J. S. Bach, are a treasured enrichment of the repertoire.

Dutch bass producer Sander van Dijck (aka San Holo) blurs the line between EDM genres in the pursuit of creative freedom. Originally, Holo had intended to be in a band, but he found it easier to work alone. Music production led him to Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam. After graduating, Holo worked as a ghost producer, and after some production success, he decided to strike out on his own. He built a significant following on SoundCloud, through which he launched his Don't Touch the Classics remix series – featuring remixes of classic '90s and 2000s hip-hop, such as Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode" – substantially increasing his fan base in the process. In 2014, Holo released his debut EP, Cosmos, through Heroic Recordings. Around the same time, Walt Disney was threatening legal action over his stage name, claiming it an infringement on the popular Star Wars character.

In recent decades, the importance of sound for remembering the past and for creating a sense of belonging has been increasingly acknowledged. We keep "sound souvenirs" such as cassette tapes and long play albums in our attics because we want to be able to recreate the music and everyday sounds we once cherished. Artists and ordinary listeners deploy the newest digital audio technologies to recycle past sounds into present tunes.

The same mix of rock, blues and dance can be found on the new album Prehistoric Rhythm. Compared to the two previous albums My Baby, the dance universe even further explored, especially to the trip-hop. Not that there is pure trip-hop is on this album, but some songs do breathe this atmosphere of Massive Attack and Portishead. It makes the music of My Baby a little harder to define, but the main ingredients remain blues, rock and dance. With a Dutch band they are difficult to compare, but there are vaguely in common with the Belgian SX, Bettie Serveert, Yazoo, Siouxie and Alabama Shakes.

Jaap van Zweden, the recipient of Musical America's Conductor of the Year Award in 2012, is one of the most successful conductors of today. This disc from Challenge Classics is the next instalment in van Zweden's Bruckner Symphony cycle, which he began recording for Exton. The recording from Hilversum sounds splendid, nicely balanced with a secure and sensitive dynamic range. The climaxes make a wonderfully sonorous and powerful impression. These things are particularly important in this piece, since Bruckner shows so many deft orchestral touches, not least in the nocturnal scherzo, which is full of subtleties of rhythm and texture.
