Architects have delivered their 10th studio album, an arena-worthy effort titled "The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit," the follow-up to their 2021 breakthrough album "For Those That Wish To Exist," which reached #1 on the UK sales chart. A number one album in the UK and sold-out arenas are enough for some to repeat a winning formula. Architects, on the other hand, keep moving forward.

Orion is a prominent constellation located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world. Named after a hunter in Greek mythology, Orion is one of the most conspicuous and recognisable constellations in the night sky. Being an astronomer (alongside his other numerous talents), Isaac Newton spent time star gazing and trying to make sense of our universe. Much of this album was recorded in Lincolnshire, very close to where Newton lived and was brought up.

Pablo’s Eye started working as a collective in 1989, a flexible project in which additional members were always welcome to participate. Making music was important but sharing the same artistic attitude was the main focus. Their wish was to remain simple and open by mixing different musical forms, cultures, and ideas. Their common goal has always been to create a feeling of travelling in time and space, by going from past memories to future hopes. Their aim remains to express the ideal and explore the real through both personal and global stories…

The Nerve Institute is the current incarnation of a one-man project that's been active in some form for nearly a decade now. Architects of Flesh-Density (2011). This is the first official Nerve Institute album although M. Judge (who is Nerve Institute) has released other albums under different names. He wrote, played, produced, etc. just about everything on this album himself, with maybe a little bit of help here and there. The music is generally hard to describe as there is so much going on in every song. The use of many different instruments makes for a full sound. The guitars and drums are sometimes very jazzy. Sometimes the guitars are more metal sounding and electric pianos are used often…

Polaris‘s debut record, The Mortal Coil (2017) was the first album I ever reviewed for Heavy Blog. While my life remains largely unchanged since then, a lot of has happened for the band in the interim. At the time of their debut, the Sydney act were an undeniable local act who were quickly outgrowing the Australian scene by chewing up support slots left, right and center. Since then, they’ve become a formidable, international touring act in their own right (apparently someone finally succeeded at getting them in front of an Architects crowd) and are now comfortably selling out the venues they used to open back home. All this is to say that The Death of Me has a lot riding on it. Yet, although it’s a remarkable enough effort to avoid the dreaded (and largely mythical) “sophomore slump”, it’s a less convincing follow-up than many might have expected.

The true power of music is impossible to define and yet we can all feel it when the sonic planets align. The magical impact of the finest rock'n'roll - that hazy but overwhelming blend of inspiration and perspiration - sustains us through dark times and fills our hearts with joy and strength. Music unites us, nourishes us and provides us with an emotional clarity that the rest of our turbulent lives singularly fails to offer. For those reasons and many more, we must proudly acknowledge and salute the true architects of the musical world that we call home. Above all else, Ritchie Blackmore is one of rock's greatest architects; a six-string seer that laid robust foundations upon which four decades of thunderous, perpetual evolution have taken place.

One of the greatest stars of the rock & roll era, David Bowie evaded easy categorization throughout his career, operating as the artiest rocker within the mainstream and the most accessible musician on the fringe. Bowie may have trafficked in ideas cultivated in the underground, but he was never quite an outsider as far as rock & roll was concerned. From the outset of his career in the 1960s, he attempted to break into the Top 40, playing British blues, mod rock & roll, and ornate pop before finally hitting paydirt as a hippie singer/songwriter.
