World War II was the first great technological war. Innovations included long range missiles, submarines, fighters and bombers and of course Tanks! Armoured clashes were on a scale never seen before or since. Tanks were a significant factor in most of the main fighting theatres, from North Africa to Russia and northern France. They featured in some of the critical battles of the war, such as El Alamein in 1942 and Kursk in 1943.

Jocelyn vit depuis son enfance une relation fusionnelle avec les coqs qu'il entraine de façon pointue tandis que Dah s'occupe de l'intendance et des paris.

En 1940, un vieillard refuse de fuir. Bien que les nazis approchent, il choisit de rester chez lui avec ses petits-enfants. Des tirailleurs sénégalais arrivent. Quelque part dans les Ardennes françaises, en mai 1940, un vieil homme refuse de prendre la fuite face aux troupes allemandes déjà proches. Le vieux Gustave est en effet la tête de mule du village. Il vit là avec Camille et Etienne, ses petits-enfants. Tous les habitants des alentours ont quitté la région. Mais l'adolescente et le garçonnet aiment tant leur grand-père qu'ils ne le laisseraient seul pour rien au monde. Très content de vivre dans le village désormais désert, Gustave est agacé lorsqu'un peloton de tirailleurs sénégalais arrive. Egarés, les soldats africains doivent faire face à la méfiance du vieil homme. Mais les enfants sont ravis de les voir arriver et rompre ainsi leur solitude.

(France, 1940. In a small village in the Ardennes, an old man, Gustave, and his two grandchildren carry on their daily routine. All the other inhabitants of the village have fled to safety in the face of a German invasion. Gustave keeps himself informed with the outside world via a radio transmitter-receiver. One day, a unit of Senegalese soldiers appear from nowhere, disrupting the ordered lives of Gustave and his young charges…)

After surviving a massacre in Malmedy, a location behind the German army in Europe, four American soldiers with only one weapon rescue the British pilot Oberon Winley (Kirby Heyborn) in a tree and they move together, trying to reach the allied forces and save a great number of allied soldiers from a German attack with the information got by Winley in his flight. While marching, each soldier discloses inner secrets to the rest of the group.

A la mi-décembre 1944, l'armée de Hitler pénètre dans les forêts des Ardennes et déclenche l'offensive hivernale connue sous le nom de "Bataille des Ardennes". Le caporal Nathan Greer et son ami Gordon Gunderson se retrouvent emprisonnés avec une centaine de soldats américains sur les terrains enneigés. Les soldats allemands sont paniqués et ouvrent le feu. Greer, Gunderson et quelques soldats parviennent à échapper au massacre. Sans armes et nourritures ils mettent tout en oeuvre pour retrouver des alliés.
