Regarded by none other than the record collector magazine, as being the finest collection of "Hendrix" sessions ever released, this limited edition ten cd box set contains over 100 tracks over ten hours of music & contains some of finest sessions/outakes "Jimi Hendrix" ever made. This box set is limited to a 1000 copies, each one is individually numbered, it also contains a 20 page detailed booklet.

Considering the profound influence Jimi Hendrix had on rock in general and rock guitar in particular, it's almost gobsmacking to realize he released "only" three studio albums under his own name in his brief career. Are You Experienced? hasn't yet seen the Blu-ray audio light of day (it does look like a Blu Spec2 CD came out, for what that's worth), but years ago Sony Music released The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Electric Ladyland in a really nice deluxe edition, though it looks like a more "standard edition" is being released simultaneously with this pretty amazing four CD / one audio Blu-ray release of Axis: Bold is Love and various accompanying tracks.

According to her brief liner notes, Patti Smith indulged the idea of a covers album, considering songs as far back as 1978 on the back pages of Jean Genet's Thief's Journal when she was still assembling her groundbreaking early catalog; it's evident she feels that covers have been part and parcel of her recording experience from the outset.

Aged rock critic Richard Meltzer once said that writing about music is much harder today than it was in the 60s. He said that back then, there probably weren't 20 great bands in the world, so it was much easier to cover the scene comprehensively. I'd say he was reducing the issue a tad (especially in light of sets like Nuggets), but there is a kernel of wisdom in his observation. In 1967, Jimi Hendrix almost single-handedly rallied troupes from rock, pop, blues, jazz and soul on both sides of the Atlantic with his psychedelic call to arms, Are You Experienced?. In one fell swoop, he united the sounds of acts ranging from James Brown to The Beatles, and proved that young black men had as much a claim to rock's budding authenticity as any English mop tops. This could never happen again, as ironically, people like Hendrix contributed to a splintering of scenes and sounds that made common threads almost impossible to find (or wind) thereafter.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of the Jimi Hendrix Experience masterpiece Electric Ladyland, Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, are releasing the Deluxe Edition box set on November 9. Available as either a 3CD/1 Blu-ray set or a 6LP/1 Blu-ray set, both packages include the original double album, now newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes.
