In the field of paleoanthropology there is perhaps no more compelling issue than the origin of the human lineage. From the 19th-Century proclamations of Darwin, Huxley, and Haeckel up to the present-day announcements of authorities such as Pilbeam, Johanson, and Leakey, controversy and debate have always surrounded the search for our earliest ancestors. Most authorities now agree that many important questions concerning ape and human ances­ try will be solved by further investigation of the hominoid primates of the Miocene and Pliocene, and through exacting comparative anatomical and biomolecular analyses of their living representatives.

Super Ape is the 1976 album by Jamaican reggae group The Upsetters. Centered around producer Lee "Scratch" Perry, this CD is undated but was most likely done sometime in the late 1980's by Mango/Island.

Le Pré Où Je Suis Mort is a 2008 eponymous extended play recording by the band from Annemasse, France. This was released on the Ape Must Not Kill Ape label.

Leave it to Lee ”Scratch” Perry, the mad professor and father of dub, 41 years later to revisit his 1976 breakthrough, Super Ape, and still sound ahead of its time. On this take he’s joined by New York City’s Subatomic Sound System who has delivered a shaped-shifted performance all its own of the work originally of The Upsetters, his ace ensemble of his halcyon days at Black Ark Studios in Jamaica. To keep it simple, this return is not a track-by-track re-creation of Super Ape, and yet, in some ways, it is just that; and with the sequencing different depending on format (CD vs. LP) it’s best perhaps to offer a general overview of the effort rather than a specific breakdown.

This episode tells the incredible story of Chantek, the orangutan raised as a human child on an American university campus during the '70s and '80s. Taught to communicate through sign language, he is now living among his own kind at Zoo Atlanta, although he describes himself as an "orangutan person."
