is a fictional superhero team in comic books published by Marvel Comics that enjoyed a series run of eleven issues when it was inexplicably canceled barely a week after the 11th issue release, perhaps due to flagging sales. It is composed of characters originally appearing in unrelated stories published in the 1950s by Marvel's predecessor company, Atlas Comics. The characters debuted as a team in the non-canonical (June 1978)--of course the complete What If? comics series has been previously posted by yours truly, --and starred in the limited series, (Oct. 2006 - March 2007), the latter written by Jeff Parker with art by Leonard Kirk. That limited series was set in the present day and in mainstream continuity. In February 4, 2009 Marvel released the first issue (cover date April 2009) of the ongoing series, launched as part of its current Dark Reign storyline and also written by Jeff Parker. In library terms the ongoing series would now be volume 2. The team, consisting of Gorilla-Man, Jimmy Woo, M-11, The Uranian, Namora and Venus, was one of the better-handled among ongoing Marvel titles and albeit admittedly a second-tier title, some had considered it to be the best among Marvel's superhero team titles at the time of its cancellation.

After the Agents of Atlas mini-series, the team got it's very first own ongoing Agents of Atlas series. That volume lasted 11 issues after witch it was continued in a minis-series named X-Men/Agents of Atlas. After that another mini-series was published, namely Avengers/Atlas, before the team got another ongoing series simply named Atlas. Atlas was however cancelled after five issues already.

One of the best of Marvel's current crop of writers, Jeff Parker, pits his favorite team, , alongside the Avengers in this new four-issue miniseries. He's joined by Gabriel Hardman and his dynamite artwork for some great drama and action. If you may note this is the second time the Avengers has fought alongside the members of the team. In the team made its debut and was featured together with the Avengers in that non-canonical yet wonderful series, exploring the road not traveled. The Agents of Atlas has had a brilliant self-titled series run (Volume 2 in library terms) but Marvel canceled it scarcely a week after the 11th issue. At the time of its cancellation it was undoubtedly the best second-tier series in the whole Marvel catalog.
