Paulo Diniz knew success in the '70s with compositions and interpretations soaked with the freewheeling spirit of those times, a mixture of post-1968 protest with the joyous character of Bahian music. "Quero Voltar Pra Bahia" ("I Wanna Go Back to Bahia"), a nostalgic tribute to Caetano Veloso who was exiled in London at the time, was recorded by several other interpreters, including Fagner. Diniz also had his "Símbolo de Paz" recorded by Elizeth Cardoso; "Pingos de Amor" by several interpreters, including Araketu, Kid Abelha, Neguinho da Beija-Flor and Sula Miranda; "Chega" by Simone; "Um Chope Pra Distrair" by Emílio Santiago; and "Canseira" by Clara Nunes.

Bahia is a steady, often very good hard-blowing and blues date featuring John Coltrane, recorded during one of his busiest periods, 1957-1958, but not released until 1965. (Coltrane cut numerous sessions during the late '50s for Prestige to satisfy a commitment to the label and move to Atlantic; some of these were packaged and released long after they were cut.) Most were done with the same rhythm section: pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Art Taylor (although Jimmy Cobb substituted for Taylor on two songs). Also featured is additional work by a pair of trumpeters: Wilbur Harden appears on "My Ideal" and "I'm a Dreamer, Aren't We All," while Freddie Hubbard takes over on "Something I Dreamed Last Night."

Bahia is Ana Carla Maza's second studio album. It opens with Habana, a tribute to the Cuban capital, where she was born 26 years ago, to a Chilean father, lush musician, Carlos Maza, and a Cuban mother, guitarist, Mirza Sierra. “Cuba is a volcano,” said the father. “Havana is madness,” replies the girl. Of course, Havana is the Malecón, this boulevard on the Atlantic coast, which receives the spray from the Everglades. However, the city coils around a bay, very closed, protected, safe: Bahia, the rear part of a human, port, cosmopolitan Habana Vieja, crossed by mixtures that have spread from Africa to Brazil.

Recorded over two sessions in 1958, this album was compiled and released in 1965 by John Coltrane's former record label to capitalize on his growing fame and success. Coltrane is joined by Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Wilbur Harden on flugelhorn and trumpet, Red Garland on piano and drummer Art Taylor on one session; the other set features Jimmy Cobb on drums while bassist Paul Chambers appears on all tracks.
