In a world of six billion people, it only takes one to change your life. Sixty-two-year-old Walter Vale is sleepwalking through his life. Having lost his passion for teaching and writing, he fills the void by unsuccessfully trying to learn to play classical piano. When his college sends him to Manhattan to attend a conference, Walter is surprised to find a young couple has taken up residence in his apartment. Victims of a real estate scam, Tarek, a Syrian man, and Zainab, his Senegalese girlfriend, have nowhere else to go. In the first of a series of tests of the heart, Walter reluctantly allows the couple to stay with him. Touched by his kindness, Tarek, a talented musician, insists on teaching the aging academic to play the African drum. The instrument's exuberant rhythms revitalize Walter's faltering spirit and open his eyes to a vibrant world of local jazz clubs and Central Park drum circles. As the friendship between the two men deepens, the differences in culture, age and temperament fall away. After being stopped by police in the subway, Tarek is arrested as an undocumented citizen and held for deportation. As his situation turns desperate, Walter finds himself compelled to help his new friend with a passion he thought he had long ago lost. When Tarek's beautiful mother Mouna arrives unexpectedly in search of her son, the professor's personal commitment develops into an unlikely romance. And it's through these new found connections with these virtual strangers that Walter is awakened to a new world and a new life.

Professeur d'économie dans une université du Connecticut, Walter Vale, la soixantaine, a perdu le goût de l'enseignement et mène désormais une vie routinière. Il tente de combler le vide de son existence en apprenant le piano, mais sans grand succès… Lorsque l'Université l'envoie à Manhattan pour assister à une conférence sa vie va basculer. Il rencontre Tarek, d'origine syrienne, et sa petite amie sénégalaise Zainab (jeune couple qui s'est installé dans l'appartement qu'il possède là-bas : victimes d'une escroquerie immobilière, Tarek et Zainab n'ont nulle part ailleurs où aller ; d'abord un rien réticent, Walter accepte de laisser les deux jeunes gens habiter avec lui). Tarek musicien doué, insiste pour lui apprendre à jouer du djembé. Tandis que les deux hommes deviennent amis, les différences d'âge, de culture et de caractère s'estompent. Lorsque Tarek, immigré clandestin, est arrêté par la police dans le métro, puis menacé d'expulsion, Walter va tout mettre en œuvre pour venir en aide à son ami…

The Cars was an American New Wave rock group, formed in Boston in 1976. Emerging from the new wave scene in the late 1970s, the line-up consisted of singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter Ric Ocasek; bassist and singer Benjamin Orr; lead guitarist Elliot Easton; keyboardist Greg Hawkes; and drummer David Robinson. The Cars were one of the most successful American New Wave bands to emerge in the late 1970s, and in the ensuing decade the band racked up a string of platinum albums and Top 40 singles. In April 2018, the Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and reunited once more to perform at the induction ceremony.

All of its members at one time or another played in the Fieldstones, one of the most talked-about urban blues bands since the 1970s. Led by Mack Orr on lead guitar and vocals, this four-piece group is down-home and funky, and the best band around for cuttin’ loose on a Saturday night. Their raw approach to blues is something too often missing in contemporary blues. Since 1998, they have been the house band at the Center For Southern Folklore on Beale Street, where thousands of tourists from all corners of the world have experienced their natural and soulful musical blend. They have also toured across the country, from Huntsville to Las Vegas, and played in Europe.
