Formed in California, the band is comprised of members: Chester Bennington (RIP), Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell, Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda. Known for their extensive touring, the band’s various releases have gone on to top the Billboard 200. The band has sold over fifty million albums worldwide and was included on Billboard’s “Best Artists of the Decade”. Their alternative sound meshed with elements of hip-hop and electronica have made the band one of the most successful acts of the 2000s. Released in October 2000, Linkin Park’s debut album, Hybrid Theory, was a massive commercial success; it sold more than 4.8 million copies during its debut year, earning it the status of best-selling album of 2001, while singles such as ‘Crawling’ and ‘One Step Closer’ established themselves as staples among alternative rock radio play lists during the year. Following the success of Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park spent a significant amount of time touring around the United States. The band members began to work on new material amidst their saturated schedule however, spending their free time in their tour bus’s studio. They officially announced the production of a new studio album in December 2002, revealing their new work was inspired by the rocky region of Meteora in Greece, where monasteries have been built on top of the rocks. Linkin Park's second album, named after the location that inspired it, debuted on March 25, 2003 and instantly earned worldwide recognition, going to No. 1 in the US and UK, and No. 2 in Australia.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't that was the conundrum facing Linkin Park when it came time to deliver Minutes to Midnight, their third album. It had been four years since their last, 2003's Meteora, which itself was essentially a continuation of the rap-rock of their 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, the blockbuster that was one of the biggest rock hits of the new millennium. On that album, Linkin Park sounded tense and nervous, they sounded wiry rap-rock without the maliciousness that pulsed through mock-rockers like Limp Bizkit. Linkin Park seemed to come by their alienation honestly, plus they had hooks and a visceral power that connected with millions of listeners, many of whom who were satisfied by the familiarity of Meteora. They may have been able to give their fans more of the same on their sophomore effort, but Linkin Park couldn't do the same thing on their third record: they would seem like one-trick ponies, so they'd be better off to acknowledge their advancing age and try to mature, or broaden their sonic palette. Yet like many other hard rockers, they were the kind of band whose audience either didn't want change or outgrew the group and considering that it had been a full seven years between Hybrid Theory and Minutes to Midnight, many fans who were on the verge of getting their driver's license in 2000 were now leaving college and, along with it, adolescent angst.

Following their successful debut, Linkin Park released their chart-topping sophomore recording "Meteora". The album would earn the covenant spot in sixteen different countries. Incorporating their trademark sound, the band delivered exhilarating guitars and riveting rapped verses. This "deluxe version" contains two bonus tracks.

Shinoda's position in the band has historically always been to be the centre, or the "glue" as he is sometimes affectionately referred to, that keeps the band together and moving forwards. That being said, his current position to helm Linkin Park and direct the band's next move has clearly been one of personal uncertainty; despite the recent decision to release tribute live album, One More Light Live, Shinoda's decision to step back from the band, and pursue the appropriately titled Post Traumatic as a solo release, potentially displays a greater level of unrest in the band's future than has been recently assumed.
