The Iceman is in remarkable form on this 1992 live date, offering proof positive that his smoldering Texas-style electric blues is ageless. With a set list that spans from his early hit "Frosty" to tracks from his 1991 release, ICEMAN, Albert Collins's stinging technique makes his Telecaster sing out over his no-holds-barred full electric band. A deeply satisfying blues excursion, LIVE AT MONTREAUX was recorded merely a year before Collins's death from cancer, making it a fitting tribute as well as a fine concert recording.

…In hindsight, though, Between is much stronger than its reputation, with many fans proclaiming it their favorite. It's partly due to Burgess' more up-front vocals – his singing is still some of the calmest one will ever hear at the front of such a band, but his performance maintains Some Friendly's loose flow while sounding more compelling…

I am not sure what happended to this cd as far as marketing goes. It is very hard to find and most people have never heard of it. But don't let it fool you, this guy has talent and he is backed by the David & The Giants band. It is similar in sound to Giant, Richard Marx, Stan Bush Toto, Survivor, etc. If you like any of these bands you will love this.

The Charlatans‘ second album Between 10th and 11th will be reissued in July as a deluxe two-CD set and a double vinyl pressing. The 1992 album features UK top 20 single ‘Weirdo’ (which also did well in the US) and further 45s ‘Tremolo Song’ and ‘I Don’t Want To See The Sights’. The bonus content on the reissue is remastered tracks from the live show from Chicago in 1991, known as Isolation 21.2.91.

James Brown is featured here with the then newly formed J.B.'s – the maestro's second great band, including Bootsy Collins, Phelps Collins, Jabo Starks, Bobby Byrd, and Fred Wesley. Live at the Apollo had caught James Brown the '50s gospel/R&B singer; Love Power Peace captures James Brown the funkster. In the early '70s Brown turned up the funk, recording such litanies for Black America as "Ain't It Funky Now," "Sex Machine," "Give It Up or Turn It Loose," "Super Bad," "Get Up, Get into It, Get Involved," and "Soul Power." They're all here, along with revved-up, white-hot versions of the early- and middle-period classics. Brown had planned to release this as a triple album in 1971. When several bandmembers left shortly after it was recorded, Brown switched from King to Polydor Records, leading him to scrap it and record a new studio album instead. In 1992, Polygram decided to make the recording available for the first time.

Many young pianists of my generation cut their teeth on one or another of Xaver Scharwenka's Polish Dances; he composed about thirty of them. The Op. 3, No. 1 was immensely popular, selling millions of copies and that's the one I learned to play when I was about ten or so. On this release are the two Polish Dances, Op. 29, and they are mazurkas in all but name. They are lively and set your toe tapping as played by Seta Tanyel.
