101 is a live album and documentary by Depeche Mode released in 1989 chronicling the final leg of the band's Music for the Masses Tour and the final show at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Group member Alan Wilder is credited with coming up with the name; the performance was the 101st and final performance of the tour (and coincidentally also a famous highway in the area).
Album number four was perhaps Depeche Mode’s most critically acclaimed yet, refining their unique sound still further and producing their joint highest charting single, ‘People Are People’ which reached number four.

Originally a product of Britain's new romantic movement, Depeche Mode went on to become the quintessential electropop band of the 1980s. One of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, they began their existence as a bouncy dance-pop outfit but gradually developed a darker, more dramatic sound that ultimately positioned them as one of the most successful alternative bands of their era…
Depeche Mode are an English electronic music band formed in Basildon in 1980. The group consists of a trio of Dave Gahan (lead vocals and co-songwriting), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, co-lead vocals and main songwriting) and Andy Fletcher (keyboards)…
The peak of the band's industrial-gone-mainstream fusion, and still one of the best electronic music albums yet recorded, Some Great Reward still sounds great, with the band's ever-evolving musical and production skills matching even more ambitious songwriting from Martin Gore. "People Are People" appears here, but finds itself outclassed by some of Depeche Mode's undisputed classics, most especially the moody, beautiful "Somebody," a Gore-sung piano ballad that mixes its wit and emotion skillfully; "Master and Servant," an amped-up, slamming dance track that conflates sexual and economic politics to sharp effect; and the closing "Blasphemous Rumors," a slow-building anthemic number supporting one of Gore's most cynical lyrics, addressing a suicidal teen who finds God only to die soon afterward…

Depeche Mode continue with their 12-inch vinyl box set reissue campaign with packages around the singles pulled from their fifth and six albums Black Celebration and Music For The Masses. Black Celebration was issued in March 1986 and with the band apparently bored of creating hit singles, saw a move into more gloomy atmospheric soundscapes. The three singles (‘Stripped’, ‘A Question of Lust’ & ‘A Question of Time’) didn’t reward them with any top ten hits in Britain, the album did peak at number four in the UK charts – a new high. All audio was remastered at Abbey Road Studios. This is an official digital download from a code included in both the EU and US versions of the Depeche Mode - Black Celebration | The 12" Singles box set.
