Melting Pot from Booker T. & The M.G.’s marked a turning point for the influential instrumental group. Released in 1971, it was the final studio album to include the original lineup of the longtime Stax house band (Booker T. Jones on keyboards, Steve Cropper on guitar, Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass guitar, and Al Jackson Jr. on drums). Comprised entirely of original material, Melting Pot finds the four-piece digging deep into some expansive Memphis soul jams.

One of the most popular instrumental songs ever, 'Green Onions' started out as a band jam at a demo recording session for rock'n'roll singer Billy Lee Riley with the famed Stax Records house band. Stax label head Jim Stewart liked what he heard and recorded what would become the basis for the band's debut album. The audio has been completely remastered and the packaging features all new liner notes penned by American author David Ritz, who interviewed two of the founding members: Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper for this edition.

The classic '60s/early 70s soul instrumental sound from the classic '60s/early 70s soul instrumental band featuring Booker T Jones on the keyboards, Steve 'The Colonel' Cropper on guitar, Duck Dunn on bass and, one of the greatest of all soul drummers, Al Jackson on the skins. Cropper and Dunn went on to fame again with the Blues Brothers movie, albums and touring band of the same name. Al Jackson died far too soon. Melting Pot is a return of the 1971 set they cut for Stax and adds to the legacy of fine albums once again in catalogue.

In an emotional musical journey, Booker T explores new takes on the songs that make up the fabric of his musical identity. Largely mirroring the chapter titles from his forthcoming memoir Time is Tight, the album titled Note by Note serves as a musical companion. STAX staples like Cause I Love You and These Arms of Mine are woven into defining musical moments from Booker's journey after STAX, when he produced and recorded with artists as diverse as Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana. Booker T & the M.G.'s fans will enjoy a new ending to the song Time is Tight, a Romanesque coda that has been played live yet never recorded. The album culminates with new original music, highlighting the soaring guitar and vocals of Booker's son and collaborator Teddy Jones.
