Briam Enno

Continuing the reissue campaign of legendary synthesizer artist Enno Velthuys, we are proud to offer the Different Places LP. The original tape from 1987 was the second tape Enno produced for EXART and it was his last work before he disappeared into obscurity. By this time, he became disillusioned by the cassette network and his mental condition sadly deteriorated. With Hessel Veldman, label owner of EXART, getting more interested in experimental music, they were both moving into different places and eventually lost contact.

Zeit ist Geld - wir werden so reich geboren. Das allein ist schon ein Satz für die Ewigkeit. Für die Nachwelt. Als Erinnerung daran, wie häufig wir diesen wahren Reichtum achtlos verschwenden. Meistens bemerken wir das erst, wenn der Tod in unser Leben tritt und liebe Menschen dieses Reichtums viel zu früh beraubt. Eben glaubten sie sich noch wohlhabend, hatten ihr halbes Leben vor sich, mindestens… doch dann sind sie weg. All die Erlebnisse, die noch hätten sein können. All die Erinnerungen, die zu sammeln man aufgeschoben hat, während man stattdessen Quittungen sammelte für die Steuer oder verfluchte Kontakte für das berufliche Netzwerk. Wozu?

Diese Produktion vereint drei Werke von Enno Poppe, die seit 2010 für das Ensemble Resonanz geschrieben wurden und nun als Ersteinspielungen unter der Leitung des Komponisten veröffentlicht werden.

Enno Poppe approaches electroacoustic music with an attitude that could be called 'sympathetic skepticism'. Although he has been involved since his student days with programming and a wide variety of electroacoustic techniques and instruments (also in his role as a conductor), not one of his compositions until now has been purely' electronic. In 'Rundfunk for nine synthesizers' Enno Poppe uses historical sounds not historical instruments; the instrumentation consists of nine Computers and nine keyboards.

Mark Barden’s music attends to the thresholds of our perception. Subtle deviations, ephemeral swarms of detail, and sustained sonic textures predominate on this portrait recording, as Paul Griffiths' booklet text notes. In these works, which range from solo to full orchestra, Barden hunts for extremes.

Violinist Daniel Hope has toured the world as a virtuoso soloist for 25 years and is celebrated for his musical versatility as well as his dedication to humanitarian causes. Winner of the 2015 European Cultural Prize for Music, whose previous recipients include Daniel Barenboim, Plácido Domingo and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Hope appears as soloist with the world’s major orchestras and conductors, also directing many ensembles from the violin.
