"Spy" is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's 9th album, and 8th studio album, released in 1979. It is also her last album for Elektra Records. The title of the album is a tribute to Anaïs Nin, whose quote “I am an international spy in the house of love”, is written across the top on the inside jacket. Simon dedicated the album to producer Arif Mardin, in which she wrote in the liner notes, "Dedicated to Arif who is himself fantastic." Although "Spy" did not yield any major hit singles, "Vengeance" (which features actor Tim Curry on backing vocals) earned Simon a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female in early 1980, the first year to feature this new category. The song peaked at #48 on the Billboard Pop singles chart, and Simon later included it on her Anthology album in 2002. The album also features a track entitled "Never Been Gone", which has gone on to become a fan favorite, as well as one of Simon's personal favorite songs of her own. In 2009, she would release an album entitled after the track.

"Another Passenger" is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's 7th album, and 6th studio album, released in 1976. For this album, Simon enlisted a new producer, Ted Templeman, as well as his clients, The Doobie Brothers, to provide backing vocals. "Another Passenger" peaked at #29 on the Billboard Pop albums chart. The lead single "It Keeps You Runnin'" peaked at #46 on the Pop singles chart and #27 on the Adult Contemporary chart, while the second single "Half A Chance" appeared only on the Adult Contemporary chart, peaking at #39. Despite the lukewarm commercial reception, the album was, and remains, one of Simon's best reviewed works.

Records (and for what became the Warner Music Group, having also spent time with Elektra Records), as it was a commercial disappointment upon release, despite a positive reception from critics. The album featured Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare on a number of tracks, including one Bob Marley cover. The title of the album is an allusion to the reply that Simon's mother, Andrea Simon, gave to her father, Richard Simon, when they first met. He said "hello little woman", and she replied "hello big man".

Pointedly not a greatest-hits collection, the double-disc compilation Songs from the Trees instead is a soundtrack to Carly Simon's 2015 memoir Boys in the Trees (in that it has a cousin in Elvis Costello's Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink, an autobiography with an accompanying aural collection). Surely, there are hits here – not all of them, but "You're So Vain," "Mockingbird," "You Belong to Me," and "Anticipation" are – but there are also some deep cuts, a track from the Simon Sisters ("Winken', Blinkin' and Nod") and other assorted rarities.
