25 August, 2017 is the day David Sumner saw his new project out in the world. Better known under the mononym Function, he released Recompiled I/II with A-Ton. It's a compilation featuring songs that became out of print plus cuts previously unreleased until now, including live material and a song by Sandwell District remixed by Function. It is a vinyl-only project.

US project THE KNELLS is the brainchild of composer and instrumentalist Andrew McKenna Lee, an artist with quite an eclectic career and skill set, from what I can recall from the marketing information submitted with the first CD by The Knells a few years back. "Knells II" is the band's second album, and was released through McKenna Lee's own label Still Sound Records in 2017.

A New Episode In Life Pt. II was recorded by Jasper Somsen (double bass), Andre Ceccarelli (drums) and Jean-Michel Pilc (piano) the day after they recorded Part I, which was completed in one day rather than two. This album contains free-form improvisation and some jazz standards and is a true accomplishment by three very experienced and talented musicians. 'Since my repertoire was already recorded on day one, we decided to record free-form improvisations, as well as some standards from the Great American Songbook. Back at the studio, at eleven o'clock in the morning, we asked recording engineer Floren van Stichel just to let the recording run until we would say when.

The pieces presented here span 150 years, ranging from sonatas by the British-born American composer Alexander Reinagle, written in 1790, to works by Roger Sessions (written around 1940), one of the most significant representatives of academic American modernism.

Did I have any idea who Anna Wise was before listening to this album? Nope. But I had heard her sing. And I bet many of you have too. She was a featured singer on Kendrick Lamar’s masterpiece single, “These Walls,” my personal favorite from To Pimp a Butterfly. On that song, Wise delivers her vocals with so much calmness, but so much genuine emotion, that it hooked me immediately. On The Feminine: Act II, she continues with her calm demeanor, and delivers a pretty damn great album.

It was a tricky question; How would Swedish duo Vintersorg continue after 2014`s intruiging Naturbål?
