Centuria

Composer Stas Namin has been recognized throughout his lifetime for using art to critique society and stand up against injustice, and his latest work with the London Symphony Orchestra is certainly no exception. CENTURIA S-QUARK, Namin’s symphony, is the composer’s prediction of a strange, material world to come in which humanity functions less as a community and instead favors individual interests. Using the sonata form as a base, Namin builds from multiple themes to create the symphony — after all, life itself is so complex that the human experience does not build from just a couple themes.

How does the world to come translate into music? For composer and legendary Russian art and music figure Stas Namin, the current state of the world points towards a trajectory of violence and dissonance, as humanity curiously turns from a collective to an individual mind. This dissonance, drama, and the cosmic cycle of breaking down and rebuilding is translated through the power of the London Symphony Orchestra, in an epic performance born from a philosophical pondering of the state of humanity. Born in 1951, Stas Namin is a musician, composer and producer, artist and photographer, theatre and movie director, founder and leader of The Flowers rock band, producer of Gorky Park rock band, along with numerous other ventures. As a composer, he has written songs for his rock groups as well as two feature films and one animated feature. He has also recorded two guitar albums and the One World Music Freedom ethnic album which featured artists from all over the world.

Un «mandrillo con gli occhiali», si definisce Manganelli in queste strepitose lettere inedite degli anni 1960-1973, avviluppato com'è in «brodi bollenti» e in «spinaci butirrosi»; un Manganelli faceto sì, ma anche focosamente innamorato. E poco importerebbe tutto questo, se l'amore non gli dettasse lettere che in buona parte sono racconti perfettamente prismatici, di grande vitalità inventiva, capaci di farsi visionari e svoltare in una sensualità golosamente rovente: «Cara la mia cotogna, tu mi sembri un morbido, sugoso frutto autunnale, di quelli che abbisognano di gran tempo per maturare tutti i loro succhi intrinseci, che vivono la loro estate assieme all'autunno, quei frutti deliziosi, voluttuosi, mielati, goccianti zuccheri interiori che hanno una lunga, afra e lazza (acerbetta) adolescenza, quando erano piccoli e duri, e legavano i denti. Ora sei nespola, ananasso, pompelmo e cotogna..

Dopo "Centoquattro poesie" e "Uno zero più ampio", Silvia Bre prosegue con questo terzo libro nel suo corpo a corpo con la poesia di Emily Dickinson. Un impegno traduttorio basato su un grande rispetto del testo e del ritmo originale, a cui la poetessa romana aderisce cercando di non togliere e di non aggiungere nulla. Ma c'è un'adesione più profonda, di tipo empatico, che permette di riprodurre il più possibile le ambiguità e i molteplici significati delle parole e dei versi del testo inglese. La scelta di questa terza centuria di poesie è stata fatta come sempre dalla traduttrice, nel segno del suo personale scandaglio delle vastità dickinsoniane. Ma i temi della Dickinson ci sono tutti, in primis la natura e la morte, annunciate e intrecciate fin dalla prima poesia "Ancora non l'ho detto al mio giardino".
