The tough thing to do with a jazz trio of any kind is to make an impression. There are lots of trios out there—economically it's the best configuration if one wants to take home a little cash from the gig—and a lot of them are good. A few are great. Nearly all of them are more-than-competent, but… there's no there there. Not so Bastet, who now seem to be tottering on the ragged edge of greatness, as evidenced by the music on Freedom is a State of Mind. The last time the Bay Area-based jazzers released an album, they were a quartet.

Slow & Steady Records announces the release of Bay Area-based “grunge-jazz” or “grazz” trio Bastet’s At The Age of Zero, which combines selections from the band’s first two recordings – Rock Music (2017) and Freedom Is A State Of Mind (2016) – with new compositions written by Bastet’s leader, guitarist Justin Rock. “At the age of zero, I was blind like a naked mole rat,” writes Rock. “Forced to react without preconception, using my beginner's mind.” The music is indeed raw, played with blunt honesty, and at times reckless abandon by Rock and his bandmates Giulio Xavier Cetto (bass) and Mike Quigg (drums).

This monograph introduces a unifying framework for mapping, planning and exploration with mobile robots considering uncertainty, linking such problems with a common SLAM approach, adopting Pose SLAM as the basic state estimation machinery. Pose SLAM is the variant of SLAM where only the robot trajectory is estimated and where landmarks are used to produce relative motion measurements between robot poses.

This textbook aims to point out the most important principles of data analysis from the mathematical point of view. Specifically, it selected these questions for exploring: Which are the principles necessary to understand the implications of an application, and which are necessary to understand the conditions for the success of methods used? Theory is presented only to the degree necessary to apply it properly, striving for the balance between excessive complexity and oversimplification. Its primary focus is on principles crucial for application success.
