Originally founded in 1783, La Concert de la Loge was resurrected in 2015 by violinist Julien Chauvin. Once considered one of the best orchestras in Europe, it is most famous for commissioning Haydn's 'Paris' Symphonies. Their concerts were attended by royalty, most famously Queen Marie Antoinette, for whom Haydn's Symphony No.85 ''The Queen'' is nicknamed. Henri–Joseph Rigel was a violist in La Concert de la Loge. Here we rediscover his Symphony Op.12 No.4. As was traditional at the time, this program also features vocal music. French Soprano Sandrine Piau is soloist in excerpts from Sarti's Didone abbandonata and J.C. Bach's Endemione.

Thanks to Julien Chauvin and his ensemble La Loge, the programs of the Concert Spirituel’s evenings in the late 18th century Paris come back to life. The so called Haydn’s “symphonies parisiennes” are the core of their musical project which also features contemporary composers, some of them are still unknown.

Since the Baroque revival of the late 1980s, Iphigenie en Aulide is Gluck's only French opera to have remained unrecorded (in the studio and released on CD) on period instruments. To celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2024, Julien Chauvin, Le Concert de la Loge, Les Chantres du Centre de musique baroque de Versailles and a top-flight cast led by Judith Van Wanroij, Stephanie d'Oustrac, Cyrille Dubois, Tassis Christoyannis, Jean-Sebastien Bou and David Witczak have filled that gap with a new recording of the work which revolutionised the aesthetics of French opera. It is underpinned by in-depth musicological and stylistic research carried out by the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles in collaboration with Julien Chauvin, in this, his first operatic recording.
