This is the soundtrack to the 1967 Brazilian film "Garôta de Ipanema". There are plenty of stars on this collection - Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, Tamba Trio, Baden Powell, Quarteto em Cy and MPB-4, as well as instrumental orchestral interpretations. The style is mainly mid-to-late 60's bossa nova, with the exception of Ronnie Von's Tropicalia-eque pop version of "Por Você". The songs are by Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, Chico Buarque and Ary Barroso. The production is lush and smooth - a nice, breezy addition to any Brazil nut's collection.
Volume 3 of the Chill Brazil series is compiled by the legendary Brazilian singer/songwriter Gilberto Gil, 'Chill Brazil 3' blends classic Soul Bossas culled from the Warner archives with the freshest voices in contemporary & electronic Brazilian music today. Classic artists such as Tom Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Gilberto Gil, Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, to name a few, combined with contemporary "Bossaists" Bebel Gilberto, Maria Rita (Elis Regina's daughter), Marcelinho Da Lua gives the perfect blend of the harmonic & rhythmic richness of these Brazilian Soul Bossas past, present & future.
Over the years, the young pianist Albert Sanz (Valencia, 1978) has become one of the leading jazz stronger in our country. Because of his age has toured with musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Cheek and Joe Lovano, and is a regular contributor to artists like Jordi Rossy or Perico Sambeat. After his decisive role in one of the great successes of recent Spanish jazz (in the imagination with Silvia Perez Cruz & Javier Colina Trio), Albert Sanz takes a step forward and presents an ambitious new album. A project that makes him one of the great jazz musicians of Spanish who, increasingly, is also recognized beyond our borders.
“Bossa Nova Gold is an excellent compilation double CD of various wizards of Bossa Nova. It contains songs usually left off of other compilations and includes many of my favorite artists and their songs, like Gal Costa's smooth Bem Bom and Baden Powell and Caetano. But you will be disappointed if you uexpect to hear Elis Regina or Leila Pinheiro… The styles are everything from Bossa Nova, Samba, Tropicalismo and MPB - what is neat about this CD is that you can get a vivid sense of the many different styles of music in Brasil and how the music in Brasil sort of is like a spider web, from one sound leading into the other and etc. Featured artists are Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim with Miucha, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Milton Nascimento, Baden Powell, Maria Bethania, Gal Costa, Joyce, Edu Lobo and many many more.(Customer reviews, Amazon.com)
