It's possible to recreate everything about an eighteenth century opera except the audience,’ says director Robert Carsen in a documentary included with this DVD. ‘My work is for modern audiences.’ And how…In this brilliant production, Carsen goes to the heart of the drama…Michael Levine's stylised, bold designs allow the story to unfold with gripping clarity and, remarkably, some of the spectacular set-pieces (especially the storm in Act III) work even better on DVD than in the theatre itself. Barbara Bonney is vocally and dramatically stunning as Alphise…Conductor William Christie responds to Rameau's varied and colourful score with élan, and Édouard Lock's choreography – a version of classical ballet deconstructed and then pumped with amphetamines – is breathtaking.

The band began life in 1976 with Cameron Hawkins (synthesisers, bass, vocals) and Nash the Slash (Jeff Plewman) (electric violin, mandolin, vocals) coming together as a duo, making an appearance on national TV in Canada in the Summer of 1976. By March 1977 FM became a trio with the addition of Martin Dellar on drums. A series of albums followed, which saw the band enjoy a loyal following outside their homeland in the USA and Europe. Disbanding in 1994 Progressive Rock fans were delighted when FM reformed in 2006 to perform at the annual North East Art Rock Festival (Nearfest) at the Zoellner Arts Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania…

Founded in Toronto, Canada in 1976 - Disbanded in 1989 - Reformed in 1994-1996, 2006 and again since 2011.
This trio came from Toronto around the end of the 70's but got slightly over-shadowed by the profusion of bands exploding all over the album charts, with Rush, Triumph, Saga, Max Webster etc.. It is no wonder some could not get their share of sunlight, among which Goddo, Moxy, Zon, Santers and most certainly FM. Their first LP full of a weird sort of hard rock with strange studio tampering alerted most potential fans that this was a very particular band with their lead violinist Nash The Slash playing as a mummy and Martin Deller at the drum seat as well as Cameron Hawkins on bass…

'The air de cour has been with me for almost as long as I've been playing the flute… For me, it is one of the finest creations of French art. I have assembled these airs from the second half\u0301 of the seventeenth century to complete the exploration begun with Et la fleur vole (early seventeenth century, ALPHA314) and A l'ombre d'un ormeau (early eighteenth century, ALPHA342)', says Francois Lazarevitch in the introduction to this new release. 'I am particularly interested in combining the qualities of sound and breathiness of the voice and the flute.'Love songs, dance tunes and brunettes on pastoral themes follow one another in a programme at once moving and erudite. These miniatures are magnificently interpreted by the two outstanding singers who join the instrumentalists (lute, flute, musette, harp, viol) of Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien: the soprano Julie Roset and the mezzo Lucile Richardot.
