Carol Kidd is widely considered to be a singer's singer. She has been described by Frank Sinatra as "the best kept secret in British Jazz". While Tony Bennett was prompted to say "you should be world-famous, where've you been?" Cleo Laine, who should know about these things, has commented, "her control is thrilling…. She is world class". This re-issue debut album, originally recorded in 1984, is ample proof that Carol Kidd is indeed an exceptional talent. She has a voice of outstanding beauty, marvellous diction and perfect pitch combined with impeccable jazz feeling.

"Why Make Sense?" is the sixth studio album by English electronic music band Hot Chip. With this album, Hot Chip continue to capture pure joy while acknowledging the limits of such a quest. It's an adult album made by a group of guys in their mid-thirties who know all of the trappings of an "adult album." These ahead-of-their-time pop omnivores - remember the bewilderment that surrounded the bedroom Prince and Stevie-isms of their debut album in 2004? - are now, remarkably, something of an institution, their eclecticism the new normal. The deluxe edition of the album includes an EP, titled "Separate", containing four additional new songs.

Kidd (b. Frederick Heath, 23 December 1939, Willesden, London, England, d. 7 October 1966, England), is now rightly revered as an influential figure in the birth of British rock. Although his backing group fluctuated, this enigmatic figure presided over several seminal pre- Beatles releases. Formed in January 1959, the original line-up consisted of two former members of the Five Nutters skiffle group, Kidd (lead vocals) and Alan Caddy (b. 2 February 1940, Chelsea, London, England, d. 16 August 2000; lead guitar), joined by Tony Docherty (rhythm guitar), Johnny Gordon (bass) and Ken McKay (drums), plus backing singers Mike West and Tom Brown. Their compulsive debut single, ‘Please Don’t Touch’ barely scraped into the UK Top 20, but it remains one of the few authentic home-grown rock ‘n’ roll performances to emerge from the 50s.
