Each appearance of Atsushi Sakai and Christophe Rousset leaves an unforgettable memory with those who have had the good fortune to hear them commune on stage. Long-standing partners, they now join together for the first time on disc for a composer they worship: the mysterious Antoine Forqueray. Born in 1672 in Paris, he was, with Marin Marais, one of the greatest gambists of all time. Famed for his virtuosic improvisations, he published none of his 300-odd pieces and died in 1745 in Mantes where he had moved in 1731, after having suffered serious financial setbacks, especially in the course of Law s bankruptcy. Aside from a few handwritten pieces copied in the collections of other composers, Forqueray s pieces have been lost. The release of the 'Pièces de viole', to which the present recording is devoted, is thus the sole important testimony to his oeuvre.

Composed in 1771 to a libretto by Metastasio tracing the well-known biblical story of Judith and Holofernes, La Betulia liberata was Mozart’s first oratorio. Often described as a stroke of genius, this recording by Les Talens Lyriques and Christophe Rousset, with Sandrine Piau, Amanda Forsythe and Teresa Iervolino, shows the dramatic intensity of which he was already capable at the age of just fifteen and the influence of his early experiences with opera.

After 8 years at the Toulon (south of France) Conservatory, Christophe La Pinta finds in the study of percussion the means to quench his curiosity. In parallel with his classical training, he multiplies rock and pop training and styles on drums, then continues his studies with musicology studies and a specialization in ethnic music. The big leap came in 1995, when he won a competition and went to Los Angeles to join Mike Post, a composer of cult series (Magnum PI, The A-Team, NYPD Blue…). The sustained rhythm of writing inherent in the format, the urgency sometimes, it opens up in the most beautiful way to working with the image.
