A patrician artist whose matinee-idol appearance was as elegant as his playing, Claudio Arrau achieved a major reputation for his performances of Brahms and Liszt. Indeed, few Romantic-period composers, from Beethoven onward, were beyond his grasp. In addition to that repertory, his Debussy was regarded by many connoisseurs as exemplary. Arrau believed that his abiding interest in psychoanalysis aided him in probing the intent of those whose works he performed. Certainly, Arrau's performances were marked by a balance between heart and intellect. Arrau was born in Chillán, Chile, on February 6, 1903. He received piano instruction from his mother at an early age, making his debut performance in Santiago at the age of five playing Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin.

Sony Classical has the honor to present a set of recordings plate of one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. Concert career began in the fifth year of life. In 1913, he undertook formal musical studies at the Conservatory in Berlin Stern (Stern 'sches Conservatory), in the class of Martin Krause. After graduating from high school in 1918, he took the first tour of Europe. He returned to America in 1921, giving a series of concerts in Argentina and Chile. After a concert in 1923 in the New York debut in international music circles with great success. Two years later, he was offered a job at the Berlin Conservatory as a teacher of piano playing. Seal of newly acquired fame was the first prize at the International Competition for Musical Performances, awarded to him in Geneva in 1927. In 1940 he left Germany and reemigrował to Santiago. He founded the private school for pianists, of which he was director. However, a year later he renounced this function and moved to New York, where he settled permanently.

Although little know, the literature for two violins has an ancient history, that on one side refers to the educational purpose of playing together and reciprocally li-stening to each other, and on the other side refers to the folk tradition.

Here is the second batch of Claudio Arrau’s mythical Schubert recordings of the late 50s. These admirable versions of the Moments musicaux and the Wanderer Fantasy sit on top of the Schubert discography.

The organ is unlikely to be the first instrument one associates with Antonio Vivaldi. Yet, the Red Priest composed remarkable works for this instrument, drawn to its vast tonal variety and the evolving technical possibilities of his era.

Iniciou sua trajetória musical estudando com seus pais, o luthier João Cruz e Janette Sanchez Cruz aos 8 anos, tendo como primeiro instrumento de estudo: o piano. Já aos 10 anos começou aprender tocar violino. Estudou violino no Brasil com Erich Lenninger e com Maria Vichnia. Posteriormente, participou de master classes e aulas com Kenneth Goldsmith (EUA), Chaim Taub (Israel) e com Joseph Gingold (EUA). Estudou teoria, harmonia, contraponto e regência com o Prof. Dr. George Olivier Toni.Além disso, frequentou na UNIRIO (Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro) de 1983 a 1985 o curso de instrumentista, especialidade, violino. Posteriormente, teve aulas de música de câmara na Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo com Walter Bianchi. Formado em Filosofia-Licenciatura pela Universidade de Franca (UNIFRAN), atualmente cursa o Mestrado em Música na UNESP, Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho”.
